In the past couple of weeks, I’ve attended farmer’s markets, craft fairs, boutiques, vintage malls, antique shops–you name it, i’ve been there. Oddly enough, one of the standout items in ALL of these places are these wooden signs with an adorable quote on them. I literally see them EVERYWHERE!
So when thinking of a Thanksgiving DIY project I could use for the home this year, the images of these wooden signs kept popping up in my head. I wanted to do something with a quote that was close to my heart, so I went digging. I found a couple of quotes that were super cute, but ended up going with something very simple–“There is always, always, always something to be thankful for.”
Here’s how I made this adorable wooden sign (P.S. I love these so much that I’m thinking that they’ll make great Christmas presents this year)!
Begin with a basswood canvas and Tattered Angels High Impact paint in Brown. This paint from Tattered Angels is AMAZING with its deep coverage. It looks so nice and rustic painted onto raw wood.
Paint the entire canvas using the high impact. Only 1 coat is necessary as you’ll want the natural grain of the wood to peak through the paint.
Let the board dry…look at that rustic-looking texture, I love it!
Take a piece of sandpaper and lightly sand the edges…
…then sand some of the sections on the top.
Stamp your message onto canvas fringe using text stamps and ink. I chose these stamps because I liked the modernity of the san serif font as well as the big blocked letters.
Line the message up in a staggered format.
Glue that message down! Of course I used Beacon 3-in-1…I’m obsessed!
Once dried, you’re good to go! Warning, this project is so easy that you may become obsessed with making these wooden signs…I can’t say I didn’t warn you!
