Christmas Canvas Postcard with Handstitched Greetings

The Canvas Corp canvas postcard set consists of 3 100% cotton double-layered cards, which are perfect for any type of mixed media project that you can later on share with your friends or paypals via snail mail.

I’m really enjoying embroidery projects at the minute and when I saw the canvas postcards in the shop, I thought they’d make a great simple Christmas postcard… an everlasting keepsake! – says Angela Harkness about her newest project.

USEFUL TIP FROM ANGELA: As the canvas postcard is two layers of fabric and you want to be able to write on the reverse side, make sure when stitching that your stitches and thread don’t go right through to the reverse side. You should be able to feel the needle going through the space between the two pieces of canvas.

Angela used the following:
Canvas Corp Fabric Postcards (pack of 3)

Pigma Micron Pen
Frixion heat erasable pen
Embroidery thread
Decorative button

Using a frixion pen, write your Christmas greeting onto the front of the canvas postcard. If you’re not happy with the size or placing of your message, iron it and it will vanish then you can write again until you’re happy with it.

Using a chain stitch embroidery stitch and three strands of the embroidery thread, stitch over the writing. Make sure you bring the trhread in away from where you will start then stitch a small stitch over your inked line to secure the thread.

Bring needle up at 1 and then reinsert needle in same hole, forming a loop.

Bring needle up at 2 and pull thread to tighten loop until desired shape is achieved.
Repeat multiple stitches to create a chain.

When finished stitching and the last stitch has been secured, take the thread away from the stitching then pull gently and cut away the thread tail. Repeat this for any other starting or finishing threads.

Decide on button placement, using as many or few buttns as you desire. Stitch the button on to secure it in place.

The front of your postcard is finished!

Using a Pigma Micron pen (a permanent fabric pen), write your everlasting Christmas message on the reverse of the canvas postcard.

This is such an easy but very personal way of sharing festive wishes.

I hope you like the idea and maybe try stitching your own postcard one day.

Merry Christmas!
