Crew Challenge – Mini Journal

We love to do exchanges, support our team and do fun things that keep us creating.  We just finished up a mini journal challenge that let us send the finished journal to any Creative Crew Member around the world.  It was fun event and the crew members that was lucky to receive a journal in the mail really appreciated the gift! Today we share the beautiful work from a few of our Creative Crew Members – first out Peggy Lee Baker.

“When the challenge went out to the crew members to create a mini album and gift it with a twist, I was so excited to jump in and create one. The challenge was to create a mini album the size of an IPhone6 must be 14 x 7 cm in size (5.5 x 2,7) and have 6 pages. Use any tech/material you want must use CCB products, well that is easy I have a great supply of Canvas Corp Brands products along with many scraps (leftovers)…and that is how I created this little mini. My Mini has a sewing theme-with a technique of sewing on paper and using burlap, tea died tracing paper, mother of pearl buttons and beautiful CCB pattern paper cardstock. Embellished with 7Gypsies little pretties…tags, atc’s, ephemera, metals and the new Architextures lines! Now to mail it off to one of my crew members, it’s like Christmas wrapping up my little mini and waiting with excitement for the recipient to unwrap.

My tip to you all is not to get overwhelmed with the task of creating a mini album thinking you have to buy all new, no you just dig in your stash of papers, stamps, fibers, lace, just take one page at a time embrace the process and have fun!”

Mini Cover is an Canvas Corp Burlap piece I have cut down to size , I used gel med. after I put in the eyelet and hole to give it strength to hold up. I started with sewing on cluster of trims, papers and buttons….cut out pieces from the Canvas Corp Brands paper collections (great way to stretch your stash).

I used tea died tracing paper, vintage music sheet with cheese clothe sewed them directly onto the burlap…I had a little piece of handmade embossed chicken wire cardstock I created I tucked in near the top just peaking out….I just love the details!

This little mini album turned out a little chunky but I love it…I love all the details, sewing on paper LOVE, it feels so good for the soul to create something to share with one another. Handmade is always BEST!

Lena J. Stein created a really cool mini journal that found it´s way to the hands of Crew Member Ewelina.

“I really wanted to use an Art Theme and the paper from Canvas Corps “Artsy Sampler on Craft” was perfect with all the inspirational words so this was my starting point.”

Crew Member Dana Tatar made a Mini with sweet colors.

“I kept the covers of this journal neutral and added vivid color to the inside pages of the album. I mixed both old and new CCB products for this project. I thought it would be fun to include older supplies as this album will be mailed to a fellow Crew member and I wanted to use items that they may not have otherwise. Once the color was dry, I added stamping, canvas pieces that I ironed on, and charms and trinkets. I didn’t want to clutter up the pages too much so the recipient will be able to add their own personal items and finishing touches.”

Barbara Housner made a sewing themed journal.

“The Mini Journal is approximately 5.5 x 2.7 inches. Sewing themed. It has two signatures with 4 large pages and and two half pages in each signature. The signatures were sewn together and then sewn into the journal. The cover is a double layer of Canvas Corp canvas and all pages Canvas Corp or & Gypsies paper. It closes with a button and twine loop.”

The entire cover is one piece with two signatures sewn inside. The front cover was decorated with many fussy cut elements. The focal point is the 7 Gypsies Findings – Old Scissors. I used a handful of thread that had come off the canvas sheets and some black thread as the backdrop for the scissors to be mounted on. The sku tag from a package of something (it looks like a ticket) is part of the cover grouping.

This is the first page in the journal. It includes torn paper, and three different fussy cut images. Burlap thread was added to the collection on the page.

This is one of the half pages in the journal. Five different elements were layered together on this fun page.

Most of the pages have different fussy cut elements on them. I have a large collection of sewing stamps so they were used to add finishing touches to pages. The paper bags are in the journal so the new owner can put some of their personal collection in them. On the bag pages a safety pen holds a collection of blank tags die cut from different Canvas Corp/7 Gypsies paper. A jute loop and wood heart button provide the closure for the journal.

This vintage style journal was made by Lena Holmström.

Juli Ondrush daughter said this is one of her favorites because it is so colorful and we can nothing else than agree! Please visit Juli´s video and be amazed.

We finish of this tour of these fantastic mini journals with a project from Marie Heiderscheit.

“I discovered that these coin envelopes were just about the right size for this mini album challenge! I took four of them in kraft and first stenciled on some fun designs with white pigment ink. Then, I sewed the envelopes together to make a long flip-out album. This is such a fun way to create an album because you can then use the envelope openings to store fun tags and ephemera in! The colors for this album were kept neutral, using just kraft, white, black and gold. Each side of the envelopes is decorated, so this album ended up with 8 pages and the recipient will have lots of places to tuck photos, journaling cards, and other fun little keepsakes! I hid some chalkstock tags, ephemera, rolled flower paper clips, and a few other surprises from my stash here and there inside the album. Hoping that whoever gets this will have fun with it!”

As a prolific seamstress and stitcher – I love Peggy’s book.
So many of the pages reflect the things that I love.
    Fantastic.
The butterflies in Lena’s book are fabulous.
Hate to say I like one above the other.
    thanks to both for sharing.
