Crew Interview – Connie Hall

It’s time for another post in our 2017 Canvas Corp Crew Interviews. We are extremely privileged to be able to work with a group of over a 100 of amazing designers from around the world. They have all come together to create, share ideas, support each other, let us know what we can do better and remind us of what we are doing well.  Our Crew members contribute projects to our blog, design with our products on their blogs, create models for our trade shows, packaging and other fun little projects.  We love to hear what they have to say, to be inspired by their work and to learn new things everyday.
Today, we get to know Connie Hall.

Where do you reside?
I live in Akwesasne a Reservation that straddles the Canadian and US Border. There are 2 provinces Ontario, Quebec and NY State. My house is in Quebec.

Describe your design style…
I  would describe my style as being Romantic with lovely layers of lace flowers and mixed media. I try and do all kinds of crafts. I love to create and most recently have started taking up painting with acrylics and I have 1 oil painting under my belt.

Who or what do you give credit to inspiring your creativity?
I have many people in my extended family that are very artistic and creative. My Grandparents on my mother’s side went through some very hard times, yet had time to make dollhouses and toys for their grandchildren. My Grandma Susan also allowed me to play and create. I feel lucky to have been raised where we still played outside and used our imaginations. As an adult, I admired these elaborate scrapbook pages and altered items that I would see online. When I lost my Mother to Lung Cancer, I felt my pictures needed to be loved and cherished not just preserved. So now each picture gets the royal treatment.

What inspires you most today?
I am inspired today by nature and architecture. Gypsies and fairies. I love to collect miniatures and antiques.

What is your favorite Canvas Corp Brand Product? and why? Just one please!!!
My favorite Canvas Corp Product is the Architextures line. I could not pick just one. I love the entire line of embellishments; the life like textures and papers are perfect for me and my style.

We asked Connie to choose her favorite project she has created using CCB Products.

Why is it your favorite project?
I love Tattered Angels Mists and spray with them; use them like a paint and layer them with other colors and mediums. The Mermaid is one of my favorites. She is beautiful and the textures and colors look amazing. A little grungy and a bit creepy but still beautiful. The shell crown was very plain but the mists brought this piece to life. The flowers, gauze and chains just add the right touch to this project.

Do you teach and if so tell us a bit about what you teach, where you go and some of your favorite places?
I have had a flower making class. I guided crafters with 3 different flowers. I have also had a mini album group where we share ideas and make different types of mini albums. I like to watch videos or read tutorials to learn more about techniques.

I am the happiest doing…
Right now, I love to shop for vintage items. I have been collecting all sorts of items to alter. I love pretty paper and lace and often make or buy flowers. I love to experiment and create with a variety of mediums.

My favorite place to be creative…
At home, at my scrap table I am most comfortable. I am a messy scrapper. I have to look at my items and change my mind often. I like to be able to leave my stuff out and work on my pages or items when I get the time. I do however get to go on 3-4 scrapbook getaways a year and try to make project kits so I don’t have to bring so many supplies.

Tell us one cool detail about your studio or craft space…
I have taken over the Family room and have my supplies stored there but I create in the dining room. I have put a large pub table there and it also serves as my dog’s crate underneath. I have a buffet cabinet that holds my CCB Papers. I use the suitcases for my CCB embellishments and 8×8 paper pads. I have my TA Mists on a round carousel and a vintage hat box that holds items to be altered and some of my vintage lace.

Tell us one thing fun about you we might not know…
Most recently I have started Ghost Hunting with a couple friends of mine. We have travelled to the lost village Museum in Long Sault and have plans for a trip to Salem this fall. We have also have become addicted to painting and take classes all over the north country.

Share with us anything about your creative life that you feel would inspire others…
Do what you love and love what you do. Step away and come back to a page or project later with fresh eyes. Go out and make memories and don’t forget to document or journal about your memory.

You can see Connie’s projects on her blog, InstagramFacebook page and of course here, our blog.

Thank you for stopping by! Have a great day!
