Crew Interview – Ewelina

Where do you reside?
I am Polish but I’ve lived in Yorkshire, England for over 13 years now.

Describe your design style…
I am a mixed-media girl through and through. Sometimes shabby, sometimes slightly industrial, sometimes very girly… I think the most constant thing about my style is that it’s always changing and developing.

Who or what do you give credit to inspiring your creativity?
I grew up in a family where all the women did some kind of crafting: my grandma did sewing and knitting, my mum did crocheting, sewing and cross-stitching, my aunt did flower composition… I remember going for very long walks with my grandad where we would end up sitting by the river in the middle of nowhere and carving little sculptures out of wood. I was surrounded by creativity growing up and it’s definitely something that gave me the love for all things hands-on.

What inspires you today?
Anything and everything. Things I see on the internet, products, colours, textures, something I see on my way to work… I just never know when the inspiration is going to strike.

What is your favorite Canvas Corp Brand Product? and why? Just one please!!!
It might make me sound strange but… the Architextures packaging! I think it’s such an innovative idea to allow us to utilise what up until now would end up in the bin. Now I not only use the product but also the backing paper! The designs on the packaging are so detailed and the paper is thick – perfect for die-cutting!

We asked Ewelina to choose her favorite project she has created using CCB Products.

Why is it your favorite project?
I think this project perfectly summarises the Architextures line: it’s a little bit shabby, a little bit grungy, a little bit feminine, a little bit masculine; with textures and dimensions. And guess what… I used some packaging in here, too!

Do you teach and if so tell us a bit about what you teach, where you go and some of your favorite places?
I don’t teach crafting right now because I am extremely busy 99% of the time, although it’s something I would love to get into next year; well, if time allows.

I am the happiest doing…
I’m the happiest teaching – ever since I can remember, I always wanted to be a teacher. Now, I have been a teacher for over 18 years and I still enjoy doing it 99% of the time – probably because I don’t teach as much as I used to though. As for crafting… I am definitely the calmest and most relaxed when I’m crafting. It’s my therapy. hahaha

My favorite place to be creative…
…is my studio. I have everything I need in there which is very helpful as I am an unorganised crafter – I never know where my project is heading and even when I think I know, it usually turns out completely different. I simply would not be able to craft without being able to just open all the drawers and add things as the ideas come to my head.

Tell us one cool detail about your studio or craft space…
It’s the only space in the house that I don’t share with anyone. The main reason for that is that it’s also the only messy space in the house – there are things on the floor and shelves and chairs and walls and most of the time any available surfaces are covered in paints and other wet media. It’s just not safe to enter without supervision if you don’t want to risk getting a colourful stain on yourself here and there.

Tell us one thing fun about you we might not know…
I can’t draw… or sing… or dance… well, I am not ‘arty’ at all and to top it up – I’m extremely shy… I know that the last one is kind of unusual since both my day-time and the CCB job are 100% focused on human contact and interaction but… I think the working me and the private me are two different people hahaha don’t judge 😉

Share with us something about your creative life that you feel would inspire others…
I started by making some very simple, traditional scrapbooking pages before discovering mixed media, which completely changed my world. I could never make it on any DTs no matter how hard I tried but that never discouraged me as craft/art is for pleasure not for ‘fame’. So I kept making cards and scrapbooking and altering and up-cycling and then one day when I thought that my creativity is destined just for me and my family, I received a message asking me to join a DT… and then another… and another… and now I work for CCB not only as a Creative Crew member but also as an online marketing manager and blog coordinator. How cool is that??? So, what I am trying to say is that you should do what you’re doing and do it for your own enjoyment’s sake because art is supposed to make you feel good and happy! Don’t put too much pressure on yourself and just let your creativity take the lead.
