Fun Mixed Media Cards for Any Occasion

How many of you have had a minor panic attack when you found yourself in a last-minute situation requiring a card? Be it someone’s birthday, anniversary or a simple ‘thank you’… Instead of getting a ready-made one from the shop, why not make it? That way you will always have a stash of any-occasion, unique cards that you can personalise by adding that one special sentiment or the recipient’s name. Our Crew members, Angelique Jarrier, Tonya Trantham and Beth Bryd, show you how to make an amazing set of greeting cards that you can have ‘just in case’.

Once you have the goodies out make a set and put them away for all those surprise events.

‘Hello! I would like to share with you a very fun and easy project: making quick but beautiful greeting cards. It might be a good idea for you to make 2 cards at a time (just like I did) and use your glimmer mists to achieve interesting colour combinations.’ – says Angelique.

Stencils

Modeling paste
Embossing powder

Here is a video showing you all the steps in detail:

Angelique has also a couple of tips for you:
– Through a stencil, apply modelling paste to your card. Here, I created two different designs side by side to make two different cards.
– Group complimenting colours in sets of 4 to create impression of depth and shade.
– Ink the edges of our cards to give some contrast.
– To finish, decorate with tags, labels, and embellishments of choice.

You can find more creative inspiration on Angelique’s blog and Facebook page where she designs as Boule De Scrap.

Tonya Trantham is showing us a bit more ‘mature’ wine-themed cards using Canvas Corp Vino & Ale Collection. See how cool and sophisticated her cards are!

Tonya says – ‘I created a set of cards using the Vino and Ale Collection from Canvas Corp. I wanted to create cards that were more “mature” for some of my older friends and this collection is perfect for that.’

Materials used:
Canvas Corp Vino & Ale – Black and Kraft Wine Glasses Rev
Canvas Corp Vino & Ale – Vino and Cheese on Kraft Cardstock
Canvas Corp Kraft Cardstock
Canvas Corp Ivory Cardstock
Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist Walnut Gold
7 Gypsies Moments paper Take Our Breath Away
Robin’s Nest Dew Drops
Paper Doily
Sequins
Twine
Chalk Ink

Tonya also has some tips for you:
– Fussy cut the elements you want to use as embellishment; I used the wine bottle and glass from the Vino and Cheese on Kraft Cardstock.
– You can die-cut various floral elements from any of the papers; ink and shape them before adding to the card.
– Use Tattered Angels mists to add depth and shading.

One more clever little card to get your mind going….we think birthday, anniversary, but there are other fun days to make a card – encouragement day, friendship day, sister day, oh make one for everyday.

Tattered Angels Mixed Media Origins Paper – Wings
Tattered Angels Calendar Mist Kit – Man Cave
Canvas Corp. Paper Flowers
Neutral Cardstock
White Cardstock
Black Ink
Ivory Lace Trim
Vintage-Style Embellishment
Small brad
Gold gemstones
Tools Used:
Paper cutter
Scissors
Adhesive
– I sprayed the Mixed Media Origins paper with a bit of Simply Sheer Tangy Lime and Navy Blue Glimmer Mist. When that dried, I cut out a panel to fit my card. I also sprayed the paper flowers lightly with the navy blue mist and added a decorative brad.
– I stamped the “thinking of you” message onto white cardstock and adhered that to the panel. I added a strip of ivory lace trim, a vintage-style embellishment and paper flower. The panel was then adhered to the neutral colored card using mono-adhesive. For a final touch I glued three gold gemstones onto the butterfly image.

Making your own cards is really pretty simple and it is oh so personal.  We hope you enjoyed those three easy ways to create unique, one-off cards that you can use for any occasion.

Have fun crafting!!!
