Good for the Creative Soul Challenge – “Spring Showers”

As you probably know by now – We love to do challenge our Creative Crew and do fun things that keep us creating.  In 2018  we wanted to push our dear Creative Crew into new creative adventures. We want them to push their limits, try new things and evolve their creativity. We decided to create a serie of out of the box challenges that we call “Good for the Creative Soul”.  For 2019 we have taken this challenge one step futher. We give our Crew one of our paper collections to play with each month – in March they have been playing with “Spring Showers”.

A collection of Spring and Easter artwork that is perfect for your holiday DIY, crafting and scrapbooking needs.  This collection brings together beautiful art from bunnies and carrots to umbrellas and rain boots.  The art is all blank ink printed on ivory paper and perfect for coloring in with your favorite adult coloring tools.  The collection also includes canvas and burlap Easter baskets, new spring ticking colors and coordinating clothespins and cords.

16 spring themed papers, printed fabric, burlap sheets and canvas with that measure approximately 12×12.  Perfect for room decor, invitations, scrapbooks, cards, party decorations, when the need for a beautiful mixture of prints, fabrics and textures is the ticket.   These spring designs are ideal for Easter, spring or just for fun.

” I used the Spring Showers Canvas sheet to create these two pieces. For this project I altered a burlap bag to make a festive vase cover up and made a great classic seasonal canvas. To tie both of these two items together I cut images from the Spring Showers Canvas sheet and hand stitched them.

For the canvas, I stitched the Spring Showers canvas cutouts to some burlap minis and then just glue dotted them to a burlap canvas that was preprepared with some modeling paste that I had allowed to dry overnight”

For the burlap bag I first used a few dabs of “Halloween Orange” & “Olive Vine” Glimmer Mist and rubbed it into the carrot image with my finger and then did an “X” stitch with some basic black embroidery thread to attach it to the back. I also did a running stitch on some of the Canvas Corp Canvas Fringe and gathered it up then hand stitched it on to the cuff of the burlap bag for extra detail.

“It’s been a really long, cold winter so looking forward to spring makes me smile. Spring brings new life and renews my spirit. This project, with its springtime motifs, did the same for me. I found myself smiling my way through from beginning to end. Starting with the art board that I gave a wash of a neautral color and ending with the rick rack and ribbon embellishments, I loved every minute. The finished piece could be framed, propped in a plate stand, or just leaned against a wall up on a shelf. It will bring springtime joy to any spot.

What are you looking most forward to this spring? Sunshine and flowers are high on my list! “

I fussy cut the motifs from the Canvas Corp paper and mounted them on white cardstock, but they would look just as nice rough cut and even mounted on a pastel paper. I added some Glimmer Mist with my finger to just spot color the images. The old French dictionary pages tied the colors together and added some texture and interest to the background. For an extra touch, I mounted the larger motifs on some old checkers and then glued them down – I love the dimension and shadow it lends to the finished piece.

Finally I cut definitions from the French dictionary and added them to each motif’s spot, and I created a rosette for the center from a strip of dictionary pages.

Colorful, feminine, and loaded with decorations – an Easter fascinator!

“In your Easter bonnet, with all the frills upon it…” This song popped into my head when I saw we were using Spring Showers! The collection has adorable papers and printed canvas that’s fun to color and create with! I decorated this small paper maché hat with the colorful blue burlap sheet and cut outs from the printed canvas and Spring Sayings page. Spot coloring with Tattered Angels adds a little something extra so “you’ll be the grandest lady in the Easter parade!”

Sisal and leaves adds a little backdrop to the scene on top. And the crown proclaims ‘Happy Easter’ with colorful bunnies.

“The sun is shining outside, the birds are chirping so what a beautiful day to work on this project. I wanted to form the project on a ‘Spring ‘ shape so when I was in the local garden centre musing over spring flowers I noticed this Mdf hanging flower shape, I just knew it was perfect.”

I live with my partner and my two children, in a small village the North of Sweden. I work as a Intensive Care Nurse (with Cardiology as speciality). My "style" is colourful and playful. I often use a lot of papers and embellishments. I try to have the photo in focus, and to reflect the feeling of the photo in the layout. I also makes cards and altered projects. If I would call my style something - well maybe Playful Punk Chic? (if i do a romantic layout, I can´t help giving it a playful twist...)
