Heart Bouquet – table centre piece

Valentine’s Day means cards and gifts and banners but what about our tables? …or… Side boards? Our Crew member, Mona Leonard has the answer for you…
She needed to change her festive winter decor to a more current one and decided on the heart bouquet to become her romantic table centre piece.

I wanted a table centre to replace my Christmas Log, this is what I came up with since Valentine’s Day is just around the corner.

Mona used for her project:
Canvas Corp – canvas by the yard
Canvas Corp – burlap by the yard
Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist – Walnut Gold, Gilded Gold
Tattered Angels Glimmer Glam – Roses R Red
String, Wire, Spanish Moss
Scissors, Glue gun
Sewing machine

I started my project by finding a heart shaped die the size I needed and some fabric remnants to do the front of my hearts.

I took the die and traced around using a chalk pencil and when cutting, I cut about 1/4″ outside my traced line and cut a square of canvas to pin right side of fabric facing my canvas.

Here is where I sew all around the heart leaving about 2 inches open .

I did the same thing to the 5 hearts and then flipped all of them right side out.

I sprayed both sides of my hearts using Gilded Gold and Walnut Brown and to add a touch of red, I used an old fan brush and some Roses R Red Glam paint and just did a few splashes over the heart by tapping the loaded paint brush with another paint brush.

Once my hearts were dry, I added stuffing inside and closed them by using white thread and a sewing needle.

I then took a roll of wire I had laying around and cut lengths of about 8″ long. I took one end, added glue to it and pierced the bottom of the heart to have the wire come out as a stem.

Here I took again my Roses R Red Glam paint and painted 4 wooden blocks that were cut 1″ square buy 3/8″ thick; I then adhered thickers I had spelling the word LOVE.

Now, for the fun part is putting everything together – I cut 4 strips of 1.5 ” x 12″ using two to make the bow and two to go around my can.

I then added the spanish moss in the bottom of the can, stuck all 5 of my heart flowers in it and placed the word LOVE in front of the flowers. For my finishing touch, I glued a few wooden hearts here and there.

I hope you like my table decor celebrating the most important feeling of all – LOVE!

Enjoy your day!
