Home – Junk Journal in the making

A junk journal is typically made with craft supplies, recycled paper, junk mail and other found materials. Do you see where we are going with this? Yes? YES! We all have plenty of those! Craft supplies, scraps of paper, found fabrics and other cartable elements. Now, instead of proudly hoarding them in boxes hidden all over our craft room, it’s time to actually lay with them. Sounds exciting, right?! It’s time for some junk journal making!!!

Our Crew member, Juli Ondrush shares with us her latest treasure which she called HOME.

I needed a journal with many, many places to write down the details. The covers are made from recycled cardboard, while the insides are brimming with all manner of Canvas Corp Brand goodness! I have always wanted to make a fabric journal, but I don’t really sew. I incorporated a lot of hand sewing and bound this book exclusively with fabric. It was such a fun thing to make!!!

Materials used by Juli:
7gypsies 12×12 Seize the Day Paper

7gypsies Architextures™ Parchment Rub-On – Grow
7gypsies Gypsy Mixed Media Pad – Gypsy Moments

Canvas Corp Black and Ivory Postcard Paper
Canvas Corp Black and Kraft Alpha Paper

Beacon Fabri Tac, Scotch Glue Stick
various found Images
Needle, scissors, xyron X
china marker, drawing pencils
pallet knife, paintbrush, eyelet setter
Tim Holtz Tiny Attacher

As you can see, Juli used plenty of different papers and embellishments – this is because there is no right or wrong way of making a junk journal. The only way is to do it YOUR WAY!

The video shows the process of making the cover, the process of the binding the journal and a flip thru of the book as a whole. I hope you like it.

Are you liking the idea of putting all your treasured but probably forgotten bits and bobs together to make a beautiful, one-of-a-kind journal? I sure do!!!

This my kind of project. I love it! I do wish the camera would of been closer to the project during the process. I would have liked watching it evolve.
