Mini spring flowers notebook

Mini spring flowers notebook from scraps

A handmade gift is always a pleasure to receive and when it is full of spring, flowers and can be part of your daily life, then it becomes precious.

Crew member, Tonya Trantham shows us how to make a notebook from scratch using the wide range of designs of the Canvas Corp Watering Can collection which matches beautifully the 7gypsies Moments Collection as well as Tattered Angels glimmer mists and glimmer glaze paints. Her notebook also makes an excellent reason to keep scraps of papers from previous projects to use them up in a cool project like this one.

“If you don’t already know, I love to create junk journals or traveler notebooks. I always have leftover scraps of notebook and grid paper that I can’t make myself throw away so I thought why not make a mini notebook from my scraps?” -Tonya says.

Materials used:
Canvas Corp – The Watering Can-In the Garden on Kraft Cardstock
Canvas Corp – 3″x3″ Envelope
7gypsies –  Moments Collection
Tattered Angels – Glimmer Mist – Cadillac Pink
Tattered Angels – Glimmer Mist – Blarney
Tattered Angels  – Glimmer Glaze Paint – Icicle
Tattered Angels  – Glimmer Glaze Paint – Aloha Green
Tattered Angels  – Glimmer Glaze Paint – Plumeria
Sizzix –  Eileen Hull-Stitchy Flowers & Leaf diecuts
Notebook Paper
Grid Paper
Beacon Adhesive: Zip Dry Adhesive
Green Thread
Fabric scraps
Twine, Buttons, Ric Rac, Pom Pom Trim, Flat Back Pearls, Little Gems
Tools used:
Paper Cutter
Scissors
Needle
Die-cut Machine
Corner Rounder

Step 1 – “I started with a variety of 19 scrap sheets of  notebook and grid paper which I folded in half. I cut a 4″x8″ piece of The Watering Can: In the Garden on Kraft Cardstock to create the cover of my notebook ” is what Tonya did first.

Step 2 – Fold in half, round the corners and find the center of the spine and poke a hole and run four 9 inch pieces of cording through and tie off.

Step 3 – Carefully de-construct a 3″x3″ envelope and place it in the center of the notebook, grid paper and cover. Use cloth pins to hold everything in place while punching holes through all of the papers and cover.

Step 4 – Hand stitch all together with twine and tie it off inside the notebook. This way, once the envelope is glued back together the loose threads won’t be seen.

Step 5 – Sew a button to the cover and add scraps of cardstock from the 7 Gypsy Moments Collection to the front along with Ric Rac and pom pom trim. On the inside covers, adhere the 7gypsies Board and Room Cardstock.

Step 6 -Cut a variety of flowers and a leaf from the Stitchy Flowers & Leaf diecuts, some from fabric and scraps of cardstock. Spritz the fabric flower with Tattered Angels Cadillac Pink Glimmer Mist and the leaf with Blarney Glimmer Mist. Once those dried, add loops of green thread to the back and adhere to the cover along with the button to the center of the flower. Shape the other flowers, add flat back pearls and gems to the centers and glue to the cover too. Splatter some Glimmer Glazes on the cover and let dry.

Step 7 – Use the same 7gypsies Moments Collection to decorate the envelope inside of the notebook. The envelope can be used to hold stamps, stickers, receipts or whatever.

The journal is the perfect size to fit in your purse or it could be given as a gift to that special friend or family member.

So for you next notebook, you know what to do; explore your paper scraps, add more from the Canvas Corp and 7gypsies paper collection and craft an of the kind gift.
