Mixed Media Art Journals with Tattered Angels

Mixed Media Art Journals with Tattered Angels

Art Journals are one of the most popular ways of art expression these days.
Whether used as a means of practice, quick ‘scribble’ or a full-blown piece of art, they are a universal and, at times, very convenient creative outlet.

Mixed media art journalist will all admit that paints are a vital medium in their process. Tattered Angels paints are a perfect product for that. With a variety of colours, different intensity of cover and with or without mica, they will surely meet anyone’s requirements and tastes.

Glimmer Mist, the original spray mist paint and the first product in the Tattered Angels collection, delivering a beautiful translucent mist of paint with a touch of glimmer.
Simply Sheer is the Glimmer Mist without the glimmer – the perfect translucent mist when you don’t want the added glimmer.
Chalkboard mist is a semi-opaque version of mist and it is the perfect choice when more mist coverage is what you are looking for; it is filled with mica and offers a beautiful shimmer with each pump of the mist.
Baseboard mist has the same semi-opaque finish as our Chalkboard, but without the glimmer!
Glimmer Glam is an amazing paint filled with chunky glitter is a sheer tinted paint.  When the paint dries, the glitter is suspended inside the paint and stays in place.
Glimmer Glaze is like nail polish for crafting; we put a lot of mica in every bottle, so you might want to blend it with the end of the brush to make sure you get maximum mica-ability.

But back to our Art Journals…

Denisa Gryczova – A True Friend

Welcome. It´s Denisa here today with some more messy art journaling.Again playing with colours, drippings and splatters to get desired background. Nothing complicated.

Materials used for this art journal spread:
Tattered Angels Glimmer Mists: LobsterVanilla BreezeChocolate Covered CherriesAfraid of the Dark
heavy white gesso
black and red archival ink
white and black acrylics
a plastic button with a pick
washi tape, gelato stick
palette knife, brushes
heat tool, black pen, background stamps

  • I started off with pre-gessoed paper. When dry, I did some random stamping using black archival ink.
  • Then I continued with a kind of stamping again but this time I used a foil instead of a stamp and Glimmer Mists instead of the ink. This way I ended up with various stains. I dried each single stain before stamping on another one.
  • I added more and more colours. I also made some splashes.
  • I found some stamped images on the foil that used to be stamp packaging. I decided to cut it out and glued on the paper. Then I inked the edges using Gelato stick and my fingers.
  • I added some washi tape bits, glued on the plastic button with a pic and added some more splatters.

Kate Dachovska – It Begins With A Seed

This art journal page is all about colours, about playing with Tattered Angels Glimmer mists. I like how the mists react with water, how they are moving on paper, how they can be mixed. Art journal for me is about relaxing. And this time, no stamping – I used awesome Architextures Rub Ons to decorate my page. Try it too! – says Kate.

Materials used:
Art journal pad

Tattered Angels Glimmer Mists – Key Lime Pie, It’s Black, Dijon, Woven Burlap, Merlot Gold
7gypsies Architextures – Parchment Rub-Ons
Finnabair – Gesso, Texture paste white sand
spatula, stencil, brush
heat tool, fish bone

  • Cover the page with gesso and dry it with heat tool. This will prepare it for mists and other wet mediums.
  • Take some of your favourite stencils and apply texture paste. Dry it with heat tool.
  • Take Glimmer Mists (no black yet) and colour the page. Play with colours, it is really fun and relaxing. Dry it. Drying process is always the most boring part of creating but really necessary.
  • Take rub-ons and apply on the page – use both sentiments and images.
  • Apply gesso over the stencilled structure – this will add dimension; you can do it using your fingers. Dry it. Now it’s time to use the black mist and darken the edges. Dry it.
  • If you want to, you can also make some splatters with mists.
  • If you are not satisfied with the colours, just add some more. With Glimmer Mists, you can play for hours.
