Moms have a special place in our hearts here at Canvas Corp. Crew member, Alison Osborn has created an unexpected new way to surprise Mom and show her our hearts are in the right place by bringing a fun twist to Mother’s Day celebrations with her festive Mother’s Day Tattoo Party.
As we all know, Moms leave an indelible mark, so what more perfect way to celebrate Mother’s Day than with Mom tattoos? I created this Mother’s Day Tattoo Party using Canvas Corp products, as a fun way for families to come together and honor Mom.
Backdrop:
For the backdrop, I hand-made over 100 flowers from a bright palette of teal blues, blacks, hot pinks and rosy reds. I used multiple Canvas Corp’s burlap, canvas and papers in these colors. I arranged the flowers and ‘mom’ banner to mimic a larger version of the tattoo and adhered them on a black tri-fold board.
Banners:
For the pennant banner, I used a template from my Halloween banner, about a 4×5 flag. Then I cut 3 inch circles and 2 inch hearts out of various canvas and papers. Finally, for the fringe at the top, I cut 1 ½ inch wide strips of red felt and folded each strip in half, while securing with hot glue. I fringed the looped edge with scissors. Then with hot glue, I attached all the elements onto the pennant.
The fabric banner is 3 inch x 2 ft. strips of fabric, tied to twine. I used polka-dot and bandana patterns with bold colors to give it that 50s theme.
Other Details:
To continue this theme, I thought soda pop would be a fun element. I fashioned the pop bottles with strips of fabric and tags cut from Black&Ivory Pin Dot paper. Glued to each tag are more hearts cut from felts and canvas.
Inside the additional bottles are flags and balloons. I attached tags to straws to look like flags and polka-dot balloons are clothes-pinned to painted dowel rods.
The cupcakes are wrapped in bandana fabric and adorned with designs I cut out to match the ‘mom’ tattoos. The cookies are made in the same designs to reflect the fun and festive feel of the display.
The Tattoos:
Last but not least, the tattoos. I designed and printed these out on Silhouette Temporary Tattoo paper. Remember if you have lettering, print your tattoo backwards because when adhered to skin, it will be reversed. The kids had a blast, so fun to see them pose with their tattoos. Plus, nothing warms a mom’s heart more than to see her family proudly displaying her name, “mom.”

Tools used: Hot-glue gun, scissors and x-Acto knife
Additional Supplies: Various felts, fabrics and a tri-fold.
