One For The Boys – masculine card

Hello everyone, Patti is here today sharing a great card for the boys.  As she says, often it’s hard to find a fit for the guys in our life.  For some unknown reason they don’t like the bling, flowers and glitter that we find hard to live without.  Let’s peek in as Patti shares how this card for the boys came about.

I always find creating for the men in my life a little challenging.  I love making and giving to the guys but when I eliminate all the pretties that I usually adorn my cards with I have to work not to have that drab look but still stay within the ‘manly’ parameters. Let me know what you think about this one for the boys today.

With the new 7gypsies  Architextures line in the store, I’ve found it much easier to find those masculine vibes.  Today I’ll be using the Architextures 48 page paper pad.  This is a fantastic pad of double sided paper hosting four of each design.  Perfect for todays card since I used bits and pieces of three of the same page to get the great dimensional look. I also used Kraft cardstock, cardbase, envelope and a piece of fluted Kraft.  There will be snippet of the Jute cord and my new best friend Tattered Angels Glimmer Glamm in Rustic.  To give the card an extra pop I’m using a piece 7gypsies Architextures from the Porch Junque collection.

I wanted to also tell you as well as doing some step photos here I will have a complete process video at the end of this post, so be sure and check it out to get the full view of how the card flows together.  In the photo above you can see I’ve cut the truck out twice each time leaving (or removing) different parts of the paper.  The lone truck has been backed with a piece of the Kraft cardstock to give it more stability.  I cut just the strip of grass across the bottom and a section of the Adhesive backed fence from the 7gypsies Architextures Porch Junque pack.  These 7gypsies Architextures Junque packs provide wonderful additions for any of your projects.  This package had 6 different pieces in various sizes to choose from each with a peel off backing to reveal the sticky back.

The inside of the card will have a piece of the fluted Kraft paper, a piece of Kraft plain paper, a snippet from the widow and brick of the truck paper and the sentiment Love You A Bushel and A Peck.  I used Tattered Angels Glimmer Glam in Rustic to outline the brick window piece.  I love this Glimmer Glam, it’s the perfect color for guys with just a little shimmer without over doing it.  I did use two Distress inks in Forest Moss and Ground Espresso to ink all edges.  I just love the look of inked edges.  To continue the grungy guy look I used my scissors to rough up the brick paper and the sentiment paper.

Constructing the card is simply a matter of stacking the layers, starting with a Kraft mat and working upward with the photo from the paper (with the iron fencing removed and slits cut around the top sides of the truck).  Next layer is the Architextures Junque Fences slipped behind the window of the truck and over the top of the brickwork on the paper.  The next layer is a popped up (with foam tape) cut out of the truck and to finish it off the grass strip from the bottom, popped up (a couple of layers of foam tape to make it the top layer).  I added the Vintage sign which I had attached the jute cord to the top right. Since I’m planning on using this as a birthday card for one of our guy friends or family members the work ‘Vintage’ will be perfect, I know I’m bad.  This card is simply a matter of deciding what you what to feature from the paper, how many layers you’d like to have and what you want at the back and the top to give it that over the top dimensional look.

I always like to finish the inside of my cards.  This one will lend itself well to a birthday card with this sentiment cut out.  Again you can see I continued the same papers and textures from the front to the inside.  With the addition here of the Brickwork paper edged with the Tattered Angels Glimmer Glam in Rustic.  I love this stuff.  It’s isn’t too sparkly and has the rusty, grungy look guys like so it is the perfect little pick me up to the inside.

I have a thing about finishing up not only the insides of my cards but adding a little something to the envelope as well.  Here I’ve taken a piece of the leftover paper and traced the flap edge of the envelope.  Once glued and inked it created just enough pizazz to finish the card completely.  Now what guy wouldn’t like to open and envelope that looked like this?  Thank you for spending some time with me, I hope you’ll pop over and watch the video now.
