We are ready for a week of holiday creations as we spend the next 5 day sharing the exciting works of the Petaloo Design Team and the Canvas Corp Brands Crew. Today’s projects rally around a simple burlap shoulder bag. Petaloo kicks the week off with a very clever way to transform the simple little tote into an amazing snowman. Tammy Henderson walks you through the steps on the Petaloo Blog today. On the blog you will also find all the details on how to win exciting prizes.
The Crew kicks off the week with this holiday tote that is ready to be filled with holiday goodies, carried during holiday shopping or the perfect little gift under the tree.
What you need:
- Canvas Corp Burlap Shoulder Bag
- Canvas Corp Fabric Panel Paris
- Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist: Olive Vine, Gold and Cross My Heart
- Petaloo DIY Flowers
Tools: Sewing Machine, Scissors, Beacon’s 3 in 1 Glue
Step 1: Spread out your flower petal selection and mist them with Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist. We chose 3 holiday colors, but you can choose any color selection. We randomly misted them to get a unique combination of colors when we put the finished flowers together. The flowers are made with a variety of fabrics and the mist finish uniquely beautiful on each one.
Step 2: Now onto the canvas pocket on the front of tote. Start by folding the edge about 1″ all the way around. Then fold the corners in as shown pinning them in place.
Step 3: Add a zigzag or fun stitch on your sewing machine like this herringbone style we found on our Singer all the way around the Paris Canvas Panel.
Step 4: Place your canvas pocket on the front of your tote bag and pin into place where you want it located. You can stitch your pocket into place, but we chose to glue it into place with Beacon’s 3 in 1, which is amazing at holding together fabric to fabric. You will glue or sew the pocket into place on both sides and the bottom, leaving the top open making it a nice large pocket to hold hold extra items.
Step 5: After your misted petals dry layer them together to create your holiday flowers using a brad, piece of vintage jewelry or make your own flower centers.
Step 6: Glue your finished flowers into place along the top of your burlap tote.
The Petaloo DIY Flowers give this simple tote a beautiful holiday accent and were so easy to transform into the colors of your choice.
We love the simple touch of the Petaloo flowers painted or un-painted as we show off a non-holiday version of this same tote with a Canvas Corp Canvas Shoulder Bag, Black Ticking Flower, Beans & Bags Fabric Panel and a natural Petaloo DIY flower that looks terrific as the flower center.
We hope you were as inspired as we were to see the elaborate and simple transformations these tote bags took today. We want to thank Petaloo for hosting this blog hop. Here are 5 ways you can enter to win.

UPS just delivered my canvas bags that I ordered. Now I see the burlap bags.
Guess I’ll go place another order. Going to be a busy few weeks.
Love the embellished bag. The flowers are beautiful.
thanks

Awesome! Beautiful bag ideas! And one thing I have not yet sprayed my tattered angels mists on is Petaloo flowers! HA! So I am happy for the inspiration, a great pairing of companies! Thanks for sharing.
