Handmade Cards Are In Favor For Spring

Fun and Easy Spring Greeting Cards CC Heidi Jakobs

Handmade cards are in favor for spring this year making them a hot trend for crafters, DIY’ers and artist alike.  Yes the postage has gone up a bit, but it is still one of the cheapest gifts you can give, a handmade card.  If you have never made one and you are not sure where to start, take a look at Heidi’s amazing cards and you will be inspired to make your own.  Canvas Corp offers a wide range of black and white art in spring and Easter designs that you can color in and then use to make your cards.  You might say, “I am not very creative or crafty,” but we are sure when you get started you will say that no more.

Hi everyone, Heidi from www.makeyourlifecolourful.com here, today I’m showing you how to create these fun and colorful spring cards using gorgeous Canvas Corp patterned papers and coloring with Tattered Angels Glimmer Mists.

Card with an UMBRELLA

There are two steps to making it – preparation and arrangement.

Card 1 Step 1: This card is designed around one of the beautiful sentiments from the Canvas Corp “Spring Sayings on Ivory“ paper. I cut the image with the umbrella by hand ad colored the umbrella part with Tattered Angels Glimmers Mists in the colors “Kiwi“ and “Caper Green“, using a small brush (I sprayed some color on my craft sheet ad painted the image with the brush). I also edged this panel with Memento Ink in the color “Olive Green“. I also cut two panels in different sizes from the Canvas Corp “Hot Pink on White“ paper, as well as two panels in different sizes from linen textured olive green card stock from my own stash. The largest pink and the largest olive green panels were stamped on with a Prima Marketing stamp with number #960834 in random places around the edges using Memento “Olive Green“ ink and Archival Ink in the color “Plum“ and all the panels were edged with these matching ink colors.

Card 1 Step 2: Next I cut a panel from some Canvas Corp “Black & Ivory Chevron“ patterned paper and created splatters on the paper using a brush and Tattered Angels Glimmer Mists in the colors “Black Cherry“, “Amethyst“ and “Kiwi“ for a little playful element.
Now all the elements are ready to put this card together: I adhered the three smallest panels together using liquid glue. I adhered the two largest panels together also using liquid glue. Then I wrapped some Canvas Corp “Jute Cord“ around these two combined panels and adhering at the back using regular tape. This combination I adhered on a Canvas Corp white greeting card using one millimetre thick foam tape. Next I can adhere the combined panels with the umbrella on top to the chevron panel using one millimetre thick foam tape, put a Canvas Corp mini clothespon in the color  “natural“ on this combination and adhere everything to the rest of the card using two millimetre thick foam tape. You can sent this card in a bubblewrap envelope or give by hand.
And that’s it for the first card!

CARD WITH FLOWERS

There are two steps to making this card, too.

Card 2 Step 1: I started this card by fussy cutting some of the flowers from the Canvas Corp “Orange Check Flower on White“ patterned paper. This takes some time but it’s totally worth it in the end! On the final card I used five of the larger flowers on the outside of the card and three of the smaller ones in a row on the inside of the card. After fussy cutting I colored all the images with a small brush and Tattered Angels Glimmer Mists in the colors “Black Cherry“, “Amethyst“, “Kiwi“, “Caper Green“ and “Dijon“. Then I added some highlights with a white Gelly Roll pen and a Copic Marker (RV06) and went around the edges with a Memento Dual Marker in the color “Tuxedo Black“ (this way the edges of the flowers look nice and crisp).

Card 2 Step 2: I cut two panels for my backgrounds: one from the same pink Canvas Corp paper as used on the first card and one from the olive green card stock from my stash, also the same as in my first card. On the pink panel I stamped with VersaMark and using a Hero Arts stamp called “Etched Bouquet“ and I heat embossed with Ranger “Clear“ embossing powder, this creates a fun little element in the background and makes the card more interesting to look at. I fussy cut one of the sentiments from the Canvas Corp “Spring Sayings on Ivory“ paper, leaving a small border and I also cut a panel from the same Canvas Corp “Black & Ivory Chevron “ paper that I used on the other card. I spattered on the chevron panel using both of the green Tattered Angels Glimmer Mists that I used before for an extra fun element and edged all the panels with the same ink colors as I used on the first card.
Then all the elements are ready to put this card together: I adhered the olive green and the pink panel together using liquid glue. I wrapped some Canvas Corp “Jute Cord“ around these combined panels and adhered at the back using regular tape. These combined panels I adhered on a Canvas Corp white rectangle card base using one millimetre thick foam tape.
Next I can adhere the chevron panel also using one millimetre thick foam tape and then the sentiment on top using two millimetre thick foam tape. And to finish this fun card I adhere the flower elements to the card using one millimetre foam tape.
By using foam tape I create more dimension to my card and make it more interesting for the eye to look at.
