You’re Invited – The Art of Handmade Invites

With the invention of online events, digital invites or a simple text message “come to our party,” the art of the invite has been put on the back burner and we think that is just a shame.  Your invitation is the introduction to your event and sets the tone and and can be as elaborate or simple as you would like.

Like a scrapbook page or handmade card you can use the same supplies, tools and techniques to create your invitations, allowing you to show off your personal style.  Invites are traditionally created in multiples and taking advantage of the wide range of scrapbooking and crafting tools allows making many that look alike nice and easy, but don’t be afraid to get more elaborate.  The nice part about making your own invitations is the choice is yours.

The anatomy of a good invite includes a great front presentation, information about the event and a way to contact you with questions or to RSVP.  It is that simple.  So creating a custom invite to coordinate with you event is just what the doctor ordered.

Your invitation may be for one of the most important days of your life or just a weekend event with friends, either way your guests will be thrilled to open something so special.  A few fun things to know when you are designing your invitation is you can mail just about anything, from a big box to a round ball.  Check with your postmaster for more details about some of the fun and unusual things that have been mailed.  Here just a few examples from Buzz Feed –  21 things you would be surprised you can mail  from a coconut to flip flop.  So sending this nautical invitation for a destination wedding at the beach is a breeze, with its burlap outer envelope and handmade paper box created by Diane Cipollo.  We have a complete paper offering for all your nautical paper needs from classic to natural.

Beer & Wine Tasting Invites:  Here is a peak to one of our newest lines Vino & Ale, this line is all about the art of wine, cheese and beer and is a perfect choice when making custom invites.  One of the hottest trends right now is craft beer and we are seeing beer tasting events becoming just as popular as wine tastings.  Our new beer papers that are part of our Vino & Ale Collection, are just what you need to create these fun “krafty” Beer Tasting Invites.  Simply layer kraft paper, printed Beer Mugs and finish with a cut out from our On Tap on Ivory Paper and a touch of natural jute.

The back of these invites is where we choose to put the who, what, when, where and why part of the invite and there are so many fun ways to add this information.  You can type the information on your computer and print out the details and apply to the back, handwrite each one or create a fill in option like this one where you can use a stamp, stickers or even a label maker and then you can fill in by hand the details.  We used our Little Pages (4×6 cards that you can cut from our 12×12 sheet) and added a stamp from our Beer Labels paper.  Stay tuned for beer tasting ideas.

While beer tasting is new on the scene, wine tastings seem to never grow old or should we say they are better with time, like a good wine.  Planning a good wine party is about as much fun as the actual event, especially if you get to taste the wines during the planning process.  Choose a date, the guest list and the type of wine party you will have and then create the invite, if your wine party has a specific theme or country you may want to create an invite that is specific to your theme or if more general try these fun invites created with our new Vino Paper Collection.  The simple design of the Wine Glasses makes a perfect backdrop for a selection of fun wine signs and quotes to add to the front, making each just a little different.  These were created on our kraft and canvas stitched cards adds with the party info on the inside.  To make the party info simple enough to create many of them we used a W stamp to create all the who’s, what’s, where’s, why’s and then fill in the info on our Journal Lines Paper to keep it all lined up.  Stay tuned for wine tasting ideas.

Wedding Invite

If you have the desire to create an oversized invite, try this 12×12 invite with 12×12 kraft envelope.  If you are planning to invite 100’s you might want to check the mail costing, but for a party for a few, we think this a great attention getter and an invite that will knock their socks off.  Hide the details just a bit so that your work of art mind find a permanent home of those invited, even to be framed.

When the invite requires an envelope we have a complete offering in kraft, white and ivory and a wide range of sizes from 3×3 to 12×12 and everything in-between.  Standard envelopes A2, A7 and #10 should all fall within standard shipping rates.  If they are over-weight there could be an extra cost.  Unusual shaped cards such as square, over-sized or unusual shapes will require additional costs, you might want to check with your postmaster before you create dozens just to be sure you know the cost of mailing your beautiful invites.
