1st Birthday DIY Party Ideas and Crafting For Your Baby Girl

Holding that tiny newborn baby in your arms for the first time is a feeling and an experience that no parent can ever forget! What we fail to realize, though, is how fast they grow up. All the sleepless nights, diaper changes, feedings, and laundry seem to never end! Somewhere along the way, though, you blink and your newborn is suddenly 1 year old- on the brink of toddlerhood! Having a party for your 1 year old is celebrating your child’s first year of life and all the milestones that she (as well as YOU) has accomplished! Crew member, Tatiana Klimshina, made some perfectly sweet party decor for her little angel using some Canvas Corp paper and embellishments.  

Creating DIY party decor is so easy and allows you to design a party that is just your style, unique and have fun during the process.  Today’s parties don’t have to be themed around the current trendy themes or what you can find at a party store, you can create your own theme to match your room decor, your child’s personality or activities going on at the party.  Putting up a few store bought decorations is just not where it is at these days, but making your own DIY decor is so trendy. While some may purchase their decor on Etsy or another crafty site, letting someone else do the creative work, you can do it yourself and it is so fun and easy and even a great project to do with your friends.

Tatiana explains, “I made easy party decorations for my little girl’s first birthday. I created a cake banner for a handmade cake, party banner and cupcake toppers for self-baked cupcakes. All decorations for the banners were cut out from one sheet of Happy Birthday Sampler on white. It was so easy to make all ideas complete using one piece of paper.”  You can use any color background paper to create the color scheme you are looking for. 

Here the birthday girl is holding one of the cupcake toppers. The pink polka dot paper looks fabulous cut with a scalloped circle die, and then having the Birthday Sampler pieces layered on top!   Pulling out your scrapbooking tools is a great way to create your decor items and they will look just the way you want them, putting those tools to good use.  

Creating a banner for the party adds so much color and personality and you can move to the little one’s room for a little room decor as she transitions from baby to toddler and needs a little big girl decor.  

How sweet is this paper banner? Tatiana did an amazing job of mixing patterns to create a simple yet stunning decor piece! We love how some of the flags even have both patterns, one on each half and sewn together. Those little details always make handmade projects stand out!

Make or choose a cake with a simple design and color and add your decor, no need to pay for all the decorations when you can make them yourself.   

The cake for this party is also amazing! We love all the pink celebrating this little girl! The Happy Birthday sampler paper is just perfect to make cake toppers out of. Just cut out the tags and images and adhere them to some sticks to decorate. The little paper cake banner is darling, as well!

Using a baby announcement is a great idea for the centerpiece of a layout.  Choose coordinating papers, embellishments and words to accent the photo.  A lovely gift for the new parents or maybe you add it to your year’s scrapbook with all the exciting things that have happened.  

“Using a welcoming card for a newborn, I created a layout to be framed following the colors of the baby photo. Black e-flute paper works as a frame of the photo, while it gives contrast from the background. A large piece of lace gives a sense of elegance and works as a runner piece for the feathers, the large handmade satin flower, and the wires. A crystal was also used to distinctively embellish the lower part of the large flower, while remaining discreet at side, without catching the eye on the first view. Quotes were scattered on the black paper and silver colored metallic rivets in star shape were placed to brighten the layout.” – Kyriakos

Kyriakos perfectly captured all the little details of this princess by using so many soft, romantic pieces. We can hardly believe that the satin flower is handmade! Here’s a closer look…
