Well… having been sent a blank canvas apron, literally, I wanted to decorate it with a sewing theme. I LOVED the 7gypsies Vintage Banner of the hot air balloon so I based my theme around this, using the French Script canvas sheet for the applique and hand and machine embroidering the final scene, adding some Tattered Angels Glimmer rustic paints to the balloon. It was fun to make and I love the final product. – says our Home Decor Crew member, Sally Mitton.
Materials Sally used to make her apron:
Canvas Corp Canvas Apron
7gypsies Vintage Canvas Hot Air Balloon Banner
Tattered Angels Glimmer Glaze Paint pots in rustic colours
Canvas Corp French Script printed canvas
Embroidery Threads
Sewing machine and threads
Templates – drawn by hand
Scraps of felt and scraps of ditsy fabric
Embroidery needles and thread
Pencil and frixion pens
Stick and spray temporary fabric glue spray
Start with drawing some designs and decide on your final design for the apron – this can always be changed as you go along if you find it doesn’t suit.
From your design, draw your templates.
Cut the templates out.
Pin the templates to your fabrics and cut these out of fabric.
Place your templates onto your apron; when you are happy with the placement, spray some temporary fabric adhesive to the templates and stick to the apron.
Place the 7gypsies Hot Air Balloon Banner in the centre top of the apron to make another handy pocket and decorate it with the Glimmer Glam Rustic Paints.
Machine the applique pieces in place, making sure to leave the top of the pocket open, I used a combination of free motion and normal stitches for this.
Hand embroider the flower stems and the tree trunks.
Finish off the flower heads by hand embroidering them.
I also have a confession to make: I slightly changed the design as I went along, so feel free to use your creativity and adapt your project as it evolves!
Have fun!
