What’s more important than the gift itself? The packaging! Altered wooden boxes with paint from Tattered Angels and fabric from Canvas Corp can definitely make a perfect gift packaging to impress and make sure that the recipient will keep it to decorate a corner of the house.
Today, our Crew members, Beth Byrd and Sanna Lippert show us how to alter wooden boxes to place small items to offer, while turning them into beautiful gifts themselves.
“The boxes are 5″ x 7″ x 3″ and can be used as gift boxes or keepsake boxes. They’d also make a pretty addition to your home decor, sitting on mantle or bookshelf.” – as Beth says for her altered wooden boxes.
Materials used:
Canvas Corp – Canvas Fringe Ticking – Blue
Canvas Corp – Canvas Fringe Ticking – Kraft

Soft white acrylic paint

Beth gives some easy and quick information on how she made the boxes – “After distress painting the box, I let it dry for about an hour. Using a glue gun, I wrapped the side of the box with the blue canvas fringe ticking and then glued a strip of ivory lace trim over the ticking. The top of the box is edged in the same lace trim and features a matching blue canvas ticking flower in the center. I added a navy blue paper flower and matching butterfly. The second box was created in the same way as the first one. I used the canvas ticking fringe and ticking flower in the kraft color to create a soft look. ”

In contrast to Beth, Sanna made more intense choices of colors, both on the paint and on the embellishments.
“A dull plain wooden box can be altered to a fun present box with a few simple steps. Add modeling paste through a stencil, let dry, add Glimmer Mist on top and decorate with your favorite bits and pieces.” – Sanna says.
