Welcome back to the blog, crafty friends! It’s Marie Nicole here again to share with you this fun keepsake idea for Valentine’s Day (or any day, really!). Both of my kids have their own TODDLER SIZED APRON from Canvas Corp. My son has the denim one which he chose to iron on a dinosaur patch, and then I recently decorated this one for my daughter. I used fabrics leftover from an apron I created for myself previously, so now we have matching “mommy and me” aprons!
I cut a simple heart shape out of my floral fabric and stitched it onto the front of this apron. I didn’t take time to hem or pin, I just did a quick sew-around using a straight stitch. I like the look of the unfinished edges, it gives more of a “shabby chic” feel! Next, I cut a strip of the polka dot fabric and ruffled it across the heart. I used small dabs of hot glue to hold each ruffle in place, and then I ran it through my sewing machine to sew the ruffle firmly in place. Super easy!
For the lettering I wanted to add, I used some of my Rose Gold Cricut Iron On Vinyl. Instead of running it through my Cricut, though, I used some steel dies and cut the vinyl with my Sizzix. I had never tried this before, but it worked! I then just placed the letters where I wanted them, and ironed them on until they were firmly stuck in place. The whole apron project took less than an hour! My daughter loves wearing it, and everytime she puts it on she asks to paint.
Along with our apron, we decided to bake some cookies and bag them up for little Valentine’s Day treats. We went super easy and used some Pillsbury sugar cookie dough that you just place on your cookie sheet and bake. If you wanted to make your cookies a little more special, you could use a favorite family recipe and give the cookies along with the recipe written out on a CANVAS CORP RECIPE CARD. For our cookies, we just added some Valentine’s Day sprinkles and then created some cute tags to tie on. This would be a fast project to do if you want to make many treats at a time! Great for classroom gifts or teacher gifts!
For the tags, we used some CANVAS CORP KRAFT CARDSTOCK that we die cut into heart shapes. Then, we punched a hole in the top corner so we could tie them onto our cookie bags with some JUTE CORD. I also used a stamp set from Lawn Fawn, “Bugs and Kisses”, to stamp a sentiment and add some fun bug images. I love the cute, punny tags we were able to create quickly! To add just a little more sparkle I also glued on a few sequins.
I hope this has given you some inspiration in your own Valentine’s Day gift making! It doesn’t have to be store bought or super fancy- it just needs to come from the heart. That’s what Valentine’s Day is about, right? Make up a big batch of cookies, brownies, candies, or another favorite recipe, and share some home baked love with your friends and family!
Until next time,
Marie Nicole
