Hello there, crafty friends! It’s Lynne Joncas here with a project using Aga Baraniak’s beautiful “Compose your Life” collection and a plain wooden embroidery hoop I found at a thrift store for a quarter. I thought the cheery, uplifting quotes and pretty florals would be perfect for a dreamcatcher-style design.
Supply list:
Canvas Corp Compose Your Life 8×8 Paper Pack
Tattered Angels Glimmer Mists – Olive Vine, English Ivy, Festival, Lobster
Architextures Stash Paque-Enjoy
wooden embroidery hoop
black and white embroidery floss, ribbon and rickrack
black acrylic paint, coral pink ink
roam adhesive tape, hot glue gun
I started by painting the hoop black, then I made a few rows of a dreamcatcher design around it with embroidery floss (there are several simple tutorials available ; THIS ONE is easy to follow!
I used mists that coordinated with the colours of the papers to lightly mist the floss design, and later I misted the white ribbons with the same colours (at this point, I had yet to choose them!)
I
I chose a background paper, then traced around the hoop’s outer edges and cut it out, then glued it to the back with my hot glue gun. The quotes I chose were cut out, then the edges distressed and inked in coral pink.
I then matted them on slightly larger papers and distressed and inked those edges as well.
The tiny dreamcatcher in the center was made on a 2″ circle cut from a piece of acrylic packaging and notched.
I trimmed closer to the floss when it was complete – it doesn’t look very round here, but later it was!)
I fussy cut flowers from some of the paper and arranged them onto the hoop layering them with foam tape for dimension.
I attached the ribbon strips behind the flower spray with my hot glue gun, varying the lengths.
These cute labels from the “Enjoy” Stash Paque were perfect to attach to the ends of some of the ribbons. I matted them onto a solid piece of paper to make them more sturdy and to look more finished should they happen to turn around.
I hope you enjoyed seeing my project. These gorgeous papers made it a pleasure to create!
I chose “Be Colorful” as the focal point, because I think the best and most interesting people have COLORFUL personalities!
So have yourself a beautifully COLORFUL week!!
Lynne
