Since everyone knows there’s no such thing as too much Merry, we’re celebrating Christmas in July with a fun new design from Crew Member Alison Osborn. Once again she delights us with her holiday décor, this time with something ‘deer’ to our hearts– her Reindeer Christmas Pillow.
As Charles Dickens wrote, “I will honor Christmas in my heart, and try to keep it all year.” Well, even though we’re in our hot summer months here in Ohio, I have Christmas in my heart and crafting on my mind. Bring on the cheer with this festive accent pillow for your seating area or as a perfect holiday gift!
Supplies Used – Canvas Corp
Other Materials: Red felt, small white pom-poms, red and white bakers twine, wooden alphabet tiles and red and white thread.
Tools used: Paper (for template), scissors, hot glue gun, needles and pins
To create this Reindeer Pillow, I used the Canvas Round 12” (Charger), Farmhouse Christmas Fabric Panel, red felt, wooden alphabet tiles, and small white pom-poms. First I cut an 11” round piece out of the Farmhouse Christmas Fabric. (For a little added fun you can fringe the edges of the fabric just by using your sewing needle to pull a little thread at the edges of the fabric…it makes perfect fringe.) I then used my paper and cut out an antler template…you may even be able to find some free templates online. You need only one antler because you will flip the image for the second one but make sure you have enough room for both within your fabric circle. Using this template, I then cut both antler pieces out of my red felt. (You can also use a Canvas Corp 12×12 Red Canvas sheet for this step.)
Next, I pinned the felt pieces to the round Farmhouse Christmas fabric then hand stitched them on with red thread. Then with white thread I hand stitched the pom-poms. Next, I pinned the fabric round to the canvas pillow and using the red and white baker’s twine, I hand stitched it on. Lastly, I glued on the wooden alphabet letters for a fun decorative look but you could also stencil or stitch the letters.
Happy Christmas in July!
