Create a 7gypsies Midori Style Travel Journal

Hello Blog land, Karen Bearse here today with a fabulous tutorial on how to create a Midori style travel journal using lots of 7gypsies paper, ephemera and with some of the new Architextures release.

let’s put together a midori style travel journal!

I started my book using Eileen Hulls “Journal” die by Sizzix. I cut the book using mat board and added 7gypsies stunning Wanderlust paper to the cover. Adding lots of fun ephemera in layers was the next step. The great thing about 7gypsies is the ephemera packs are filled with lots of tags, tickets, and words. The paper has great images that can be cut out as well. I always buy both 12×12 & 6×6 paper pad so I have the benefit of choice! The airplane was cut out of a fabric panel & stitched around the edges – I confess I am a bit addicted to this technique as it adds so much texture!

Let’s talk about the new Architextures!

This, oh so cool, lantern is one of the new Architextures releases that debuted at Creativation2017. My local store just got their shipment. They are realistic-looking dimensional stickers that add an amazing embellishment to the Midori style travel journal. You can find the story of them here.
I started by distressing some torn CCB Newsprint paper that approximated the shape of the lantern. It is so great that the glass of the lantern looks like actual glass & adds yet another dimension to my cover. This cover was so much fun to make!

What Does the spine look like?

The beauty of this book is the holes in the spine are punched using the die which makes assembly super easy. The spine was distressed using Colorbox Blends Ink to match the paper. The book has room for 3 signatures (book-making speak for the groups of paper inside a book). I chose to use elastic to bind my book. That way, I can easily remove the signatures from the book and work on them, then just slide them back in, like a Midori journal. The beads just add some great color – I love playing with beads!

Now, for the inside

Here is what the inside of the book looks like with the signatures removed – I forgot to ink the inside spine but you really don’t notice when the book is assembled. You can see the 3 elastic bands that allow easy removal of the signatures.

Here are my signatures; each one has 5 or 6 pieces. I put in a combination of paper, tags & patterned card stock.Cutting the pages different sizes makes the book interesting to look through. Some of the tags I cut from the 7gypsies paper. Adding tabs is one of my favorite things!

Take a peak inside the book. Glimmer Misted tag & composition paper for lists or journaling.

I added Glimmer Mist to some of the tabs, hence the pop of color. I also misted some composition paper so that I could have lots of room to journal and the paper blends in nicely with the rest of the book.

Now, my Midori-style travel journal is all ready for me to take on my next adventure. All I will need is a bag with some ephemera, glue & pens to create on vacation!
