Naturally Aged Kits are a perfect way of making one thing look like something else; there are plenty of finishes available: from rusty metal, through marble to wood. The kits work on paper just as well as they do on wood, ceramic or stone so the options are aplenty as to what can be achieved with just 4 small bottles of paint.
Today, our Crew member, Monica Taylor shares with us a technique video on how to use the Red Brick Wall kit and then she uses it to make a gift set of matching canvas and a gift card.
Let the fun begin!
‘My sister is getting married at a Vineyard this summer and I wanted to create something that she could hang on her wall as a memory of her day. The decision was pretty easy – canvas and a matching card to go with it.’ – explains her inspiration Monica.
Materials used:
Tattered Angels Naturally Aged Kit – Red Bricks
7gypsies Architextures Treasures: Wooden Corkscrew
7gypsies Architextures Findings: Green Tinted Bottles
White cardstock
TCW Bricks Stencil
Heating tool
Paint brush
This is a technique video on how to use the Naturally Aged Paint System – Red Bricks.
Monica’s tips:
- Tape down stencil over heavy cardstock using blue painters’ tape.
- While the paint is still wet, randomly spray Boardwalk Glimmer mist in a few areas.
- Spray Cherry Cola (Chalkboard) until you see the bricks have clear boundaries.
- Using a small brush, paint the Coconut Glaze over the bricks enough so that when heated it bubbles. Complete about 5 bricks at a time.
- Blot Cherry Cola onto dried bricks leaving some bricks bare.
- Spray Nougat across your project once again as well as painting in between each brick to accentuate the mortar.
On a 4.5″ x 5.5″ piece of heavy cardstock, create brick wall using Tattered angels Naturally Aged Kit.
Paint canvas a neutral tan color using acrylic paint. Add Cherry Cola Chalk Board to some texture paste. Use Brick stencil and pallet knife to add texture paste to canvas.
Stamp a brick wall on area of canvas that does not have the texture paste.
Using a paint brush, paint on Fuzzy Coconut Glaze. Heat with heating tool until bubbles. Once all the bricks are covered, paint on Cherry Cola Chalk Board.
Tear 4.5″ x 5.5″ piece of heavy cardstock into 4 pieces. Using Black soot distress crayon, cover the edges of the torn paper.
Adhere pieces to 5″ x 7″ piece of craft cardstock. Attach the craft cardstock to the canvas using brads. Adhere Wine bottle and Cork Screw Architexture Trinkets Findings and Treasures to the canvas. Add a sentiment on top of canvas using glue gun.
You can easily change the them of this gift set by adding different embellishments: spectacles and old pens for a student, globe and luggage for a traveller, coffee jar and utensils for a cook, and mirror and floral pocketbooks for a chic lady. There is no limit to personalising this versatile pair.
