Today, we get to know Betz Golden.
Where do you reside? City, State, Country
Southwest USA!
Describe your design style…
I love bright colors, whimisical and fun! I’m not afraid to mix patterns and lots of color. I’m drawn to things that make you think and may be offensive to some. It is those art pieces that cause people to think and talk. I use art to start discussions evennifbit makes me uncomfortable,
Who or what do you give credit to inspiring your creativity?
I give credit to my Grandma. She did not have a high school education and ran across the country when she was 14 to create a better life for herself (she was abused). She worked through her pain with a paint brush and became a sought after oil painter and instructor in the San Fransico Bay Area. While my mom was attending community college at night I would sit in on her art classes. Though I never mastered oil paints a fire was lit in my soul and my passion burns for art. In her later years she was Ben taught classes at the Care facility she was living in. She suffered from dementia, but never forgot how to paint. It was her only peace in her last years. She even was working on a piece when she passed.
What inspires you today?
I am inspired by political and social issues; things that stop me in my tracks and make me work something out.
What is your favorite Canvas Corp Brand Product? and why? Just one please!!!
My favorite Canvas Corp Brand Product (though hard to pick just one!) are the artboards! I love how I can throw anything at them!
We asked Betz to choose her favorite project she has created using CCB Products.
Why is it your favorite project?
These are my favorite because they allowed me a great base (paint for the desk, canvas and aprons and bags) to be used as a substrate that reflects who I am as a person and artist.
Do you teach and if so tell us a bit about what you teach, where you go and some of your favorite places?
Currently I have tutorials on YouTube (you can just search Betz Golden and find my channel) and plan to start teaching at Paper Collage in the Phoenix West Valley. My background is in education (I taught junior high before having children) and I like the process of discovery that takes place instructing. I teach everything from papercraftingvtechniques to mixed media.
I am the happiest doing…
I am the happiest traveling and walking the local neighborhoods learning about the culture of the place I am visiting (I write a lot of Traveling Gypsies posts!).
My favorite place to be creative…
In my craft room!
Tell us one cool detail about your studio or craft space…
My studio is the only room in my house that has clutter! I’m a neat freak and don’t like to have a bunch of knock knacks — until you step foot in my studio.
Tell us one thing fun about you we might not know…
Though I used to breed Golden Retrievers my favorite animal is a penguin. I was able to do a behind the scenes day caring for these silly birds!
Share with us anything about your creative life that you feel would inspire others…
Break rules and do your own thing. Art covers a broad spectrum and it’s okay to step outside of the box! Use something in a way it was not intended to be used.
If you have a passion and desire to create you should do it! Put blinders on and go with what is in your heart — don’t over think it. And please never compare yourself or Work to another!
Thank you for stopping by! Have a great day!
