Today, we get to know Karen Crossen.
Where do you reside?
I live in John’s Creek, Georgia! (Which is just about 20 minutes north of Atlanta!)
Describe your design style…
I don’t really know how to describe my style! I love using rustic wood for backgrounds and then adding color! I love creating interesting backgrounds and images! I have no art background but I love mixed media because it just lets you create whatever you want with no rules!
Who or what do you give credit to inspiring your creativity?
I am inspired by quotes! I love finding quotes in different places. Obviously, I often find quotes in books, but sometimes advertising, things people say and Pinterest, of course! Those quotes go into my sketchbooks and I create images based on those quotes!
What inspires you today?
Today, I am most inspired by all things uplifting and positive! I am also inspired by people and things that make me smile or laugh!
What is your favorite Canvas Corp Brand Product? and why? Just one please!!!
I love Tattered Angels Glimmer Glaze. There are so many colors to choose from; they are super versatile and work with a ton of different mediums. I love that they can either be a background or the final finishing touch on a project!
We asked Karen to choose her favorite project she has created using CCB Products.
Why is it your favorite project?
I love the way the wood stained with Tattered Angels! It is covered with just the perfect rustic colors!!! And the Architextures give it just enough background texture … I have it hanging in my art room on the wall.
I am the happiest doing…
Anything at my art desk, creating anything with color and anything that I can get my hands in and get messy!
My favorite place to be creative…
My art desk!! I have it set up just the way I love it!
Tell us one cool detail about your studio or craft space…
My cabinets and storage are all vintage and old pieces of furniture! The tall cabinet to the side of my desk is from the attic in my Granny’s house and the turquoise piece is an old vintage appliance cart! I use old suitcases and toolboxes to keep my art supply collection organized!
Tell us one thing fun about you we might not know…
I love watching entire seasons of old shows on my television while I work! (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Alias, Dawson’s Creek!)
Share with us anything about your creative life that you feel would inspire others…
I have no art background whatsoever but sometimes when you try something out of your comfort zone … you find a new passion, like I found mixed media art!
Thank you for stopping by! Have a great day!
