Do you love to change your rooms out for each season? Pillows are such a great way to transform a space for each season in no time. Canvas Corp offers a wide range of burlap and canvas blank pillow covers in different shapes and sizes that can be decorated for any season. They can slip right over an existing pillow or pick up a few pillow forms and you are ready to go. Crew Member Viktoriya Porechnaya shows us a great way to decorate for Fall and Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is not celebrated around the world, but Autumn happens in a large part of the world, so Fall leaves are a terrific way to celebrate the season or the holiday or both. Add a touch of orange, red, green and brown and your room will be spectacular.
Tattered Angels paints are a great way to add the right touch of color to any project and Tattered Angels offers a wide range of paint kits called Calendar Kits. Why the name you ask? The kits follow the seasonal calendar beginning with the New Year, love in the air, Father’s Day, Back to School, Christmas and everything in-between. To see the entire collection visit the shop. Check out the painted samples to get a feel for what you get with each kit. There are two types of kits Mist Kits – these are all mist bottles (could be any mist type – Glimmer Mist, Simply Sheer Mist, Chalkboard Mist or Baseboard Mist) or Paint Kits – these are a combination of any type of paint across all the paint lines. We add a bit of glimmer with Glimmer Glam where it is needed, or rich deep High Impact and combine it with beautiful mist paints. So make sure to double check each one to get just what you are looking for. The paints are 1 ounce so they are a great way to get started too and then you can buy bigger bottles of your favorites.
Not every event during the year is a holiday so the kits cover seasons, moments and beautiful color palettes. Viktoriya choose the Pumpkin Patch Mist Kit, so you can probably guess what colors are in the kit. You can also see in the image when the colors cross over you can make a wider range of Fall colors in deeper tones.
I love to make my home cozy for all seasons and I like pillows in my home! You can make your own pillow covers to customize the fabric and the size or you can buy pre-made pillows from Canvas Corp. One paint or mist kit gives you the right combo of colors for any season and you just pick the shapes. Then add burlap fringe, a bit of hand-stitching and wooden buttons to finish it off. It only takes about an hour and your home is cozy for the Fall!
Materials Used:
Tools Used: Pencil; Scissors; Sewing machine; Heating tool; Needle; newspaper or misting mat
Step 2: Cut leaves from canvas.
Step 3: Paint leaves in fall colors with Tattered Angels mists. I used Pumpkin Patch Calendar Kit.
Step 4: Dry with heating tool.
To make the pillow you can cut one to size by measuring a current pillow across and up and down. Leave 1″ extra space to sew all the way around. We suggest cutting the back into 2 pieces so you can make a flap (make each one a bit bigger so it will flap over), pin them into place and stitch or buy them ready to go.
Step 5: Sew burlap fringe by sewing machine and sew leaves on it. I used moulinee DMC for decorative hand stitches. You can do this before sewing your pillow together or slip your hand in from the back and stitch into place.
Step 8: Add wooden buttons on leaves.
So slip into something for Fall and show off your love of the season. Add a touch of brown, orange, red and yellow and you are all set. Look for items around your home in these colors to update the mantel, table or centerpiece. Don’t worry if they are not fall decor, the colors say it all. You can even use the Fall leaves you traced and paint them with Tattered Angels High Impact Paints to preserve them and turn them into works of art. If you want the original color to show through, use the Tattered Angels Clear Glimmer Glam.
We hope you get to be a little creative this Autumn and Thanksgiving season and bring out the beauty in those Fall Leaves!!!!
