Hi everyone, Heidi from www.makeyourlifecolourful.com here, today I would like to show you the art journal page that I created as a reminder for Epilepsy Awareness Day, which is March 26th. It’s also called Purple Day (you can find more about this day here: http://www.purpleday.org/).
Today I’m working in my 7gypsies Architextures “Vintage Pink“ Mix and Match Book and I choose a page with a floral background. The fun thing about this Mix and Match Book is that you can take pages out while you’re working on it and you can put it back in when you’re finished. So, let’s get started!
I used the following materials:
7gypsies Architextures “Vintage Pink“ Mix and Match Book
Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist in the color “Amethyst“
Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist in the color “Navy Blue“
Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist in the color “Kiwi“
Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist in the color “Caper Green“
black Faber Castell PITT Artist Pen
white Gelly Roll Pen, small brush
Memento ink in the color “Olive Grove“
Nuvo Glimmer Paste in the color “Amethyst Purple“ and an palette knife
Versafine “Onyx Black“ ink
heat tool and clear embossing powder
The Crafter’s Workshop stencil TCW781s
Altenew stamp set “Beautiful Day“
Step 1: I looked for a quote on line that felt suitable for Epilepsy Awareness Day and I pencilled that in on my page, first using a graphite pencil and when I liked the lay out I went over the lines using a black Faber Castell PITT Artist Pen. I used a calligraphy style that I taught myself as a child. Then I applied some Nuvo Glimmer Paste in the color “Amethyst Purple“ over a The Crafter’s Workshop stencil (TCW781s) using a palette knife and set the page aside to dry.
Step 2: While the paste is drying I’m working on my flowers embellishments: for this I stamped the leaves and the flower stamp from the Altenew “Beautiful Day“ stamp set several times onto watercolor paper using Versafine “Onyx Black “ ink and my MISTI (stamping tool) and clear heat embossing afterwards (this helps to keep the lines crisp and black).
I wanted to color the flowers purple but I don’t have any purple Tattered Angels products: so, I decided to mix my own purple Glimmer Mist color. For this I mixed Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist in the color “Amythist“ (which is a bit to pink for my liking to be purple) with Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist in the color “Navy Blue“ (about 1:1). With this mixture I colored the flowers using a small brush.
For the leaves I used Tattered Angels Glimmer Mists in the colors “Kiwi“ and “Caper Green“.
When the coloring was done and the images were dry I fussy cut them all using my Fiskars scissors and leaving a small white border.
To bring back in some of the highlights I used a white Gelly Roll Pen.
Step 3: Now it’s time to put my art journal page together: I adhered the flowers and leaves to the page, in a design that I liked, using gel medium/liquid glue (whatever you have or prefer). And to finish this page I edged around the page using Memento “Olive Grove“ ink and a foam applicator tool.
And that’s it for today’s project!
I wish you a creative day!
