We are always looking for great teacher gift ideas and this clever use of those printed plastic cups we all collect is genius. Erin shows us how to make these bright pencil holders that will brighten up any desk. A great project to make with the kids and they can proudly give to their teacher.
I wanted to create something useful and fun for my kid’s teachers this year, and I thought of something they could put on their desk and look pretty, a pencil cup!! They could put anything they want in them not just pencils but markers, rulers, scissors, really anything they want!! Plus if they wanted to take it home for themselves they could!!
Here is a short little how to video on how I made the pink cup using the Canvas Home Basics “cup” size saggy bag (Saggy Baggy – are sewn little bags with a cuff on the top and they are prefect for covering flower pots, cups, mason jars, jars, tin cans and other repurpose items) and a large take out plastic cup with products from Canvas Home Basics and Tombow.
The red is the same dimensions as the pink cup, but the green cup is a “pint” size Canvas Home Basics saggy bag (available in 3 different sizes – cup, pint and quart) and uses a large yogurt container as the base.
You can decorate your fancy cups with assorted like Canvas or Burlap Fringe, Canvas and Burlap Flowers (by the way these are hand sewn and no two are alike) and finished with a natural jute cord.
Fill with a great set of colored pencils, #2 pencils, markers, sharpie markers, highlighters or ink pens. Encourage the kids to make a special tag for their teacher or add a secret note at the bottom to be found.
Don’t forget to show your teachers some love now that the end of the school year is coming up!!! This is also a great class project for kids to make and take home to mom and dad.
Plastic Containers/Cups
Enjoy!!
