We couldn’t think of a better way to break up the week, then by sharing our next featured crew member in our ongoing CCB series where we feature a member of the Canvas Corp Brands Creative Crew. These stories allow us to show you who our designers are, what inspires them, which mediums they enjoy working in and their favorite projects. We work with such an incredible crew of designers who love to share their latest techniques, projects and everyday life. The most exciting part of our journey is our crew can be fun around the globe. This allows us to travel to various locales right from our homes or work spaces and experience the traditional, modern cultures of our crew. Today our journey takes us to the magical Emerald Isle of the Republic of Ireland”. Here we introduce you to a wonderful artist, Sharon Callis. To learn more about the history and culture of Ireland visit Wikipedia.
Sharon makes an amazing addition to our CCB Crew. Her presence on our team has provided us with so many levels of creativity and brings a diverse paper movement to our crew. Her talent with paper fills us with so much inspiration. She is a designer, educator, and blogger with a passion for up-cycling. Sharon’s message; “Join me on my creative journey and discover your own crafty side!” Which is exactly what we are doing, joining her on a creative journey and watching her tell her story through her works. We are so excited that she is apart of our creative journey and that we are able to share her world with our creative community. Our story continues to be told through our products, projects and through our incredible crew, like our featured crew member Sharon.
Everyone of our Crew Members was asked to create a 4×4 Canvas that represents themselves and their personal style. Sharon’s is so cheery. She describes; “I choose the Black and Amber (Yellow) color scheme to represent my home City colors. I am from Kilkenny and extremely proud of our heritage and sporting history. The ‘S’ obviously represents my name, but it is large and bold and the quilling portrays the multitude of swirling creative ideas that I have in me and how they all work in different directions but in the end all come together in my projects. The flowers show how I have bloomed over the years, being a mum and a crafter, and finally ‘Live in the Moment’ is something I truly believe. I have had so much taken from me over the years that I appreciate every day and plan to live it like it’s my last.” Well said Sharon! Sharon’s design style can best be described as…”I love bright and funky colors and my style does change depending on the products used by mainly it is Contemporary, If the project requires 3d crafting elements that is all the better.”
Sharon was inspired most to be creative by….” have been crafting for over 25 years and living in Ireland I was brought up around many different types of crafting, it’s in my blood. My favorite subject in school was art, a visit to the national gallery in my teens solidified my love of art and I knew very early on in life that my career would involve arts and crafts. My greatest inspiration was Charles Rennie Mackintosh, he took clean lines, simplistic forms and simple floral details to create for the individual rather than the masses, he was at the forefront of the modernist movement and brought art into the everyday living environment.”
What inspires you most today? “Technology!, yeah it’s a bit of a broad subject but the innovation and creativity brought into the arts and crafts world by technology is astounding, painting without paint, drawing without ink, scrap booking without paper, the list goes on. This inspires me to think of new and exciting dimensions I can bring to my projects by using technology such as electronic cutters which give me the confidence to create my own.”
What is your favorite Canvas Corp Brand Product? “The Canvas Corp Home Basics Paper, I love the Ivory tones especially. I have some that i bought years ago that are still percest and the designs still on trend today, love that!”
What is one of your favorite Canvas Corp Brands Projects you have created?
“I wanted to make a recipe album to hold some vintage family recipe and I found the perfect paper with the ‘Holiday Baking’ Collection. I think the book will make a great heirloom.”
I am the happiest doing…..”Designing stamps, dies and 3d templates.”
My favorite place to be creative…..”My own little room. Next year i hope to be moving to a bigger ‘Cabin’ in the garden!”
Tell us one cool detail about your studio or craft space…”My desks and counter tops are at ‘standing’ height, I prefer to stand when creating.”
