Welcome to another segment of Friday With Friends.
Today we will be showcasing Crew Member Gemma Hynes and The Artistic Stamper.

In Gemma’s Words

I love to create little journals for my own use, and as it’s for personal use, you can put aside the worry of perfection and instead customize the book for your own needs building a book that is the right size and is made with the papers you want, I used High Impact paints and stamps from The Artistic Stamper to make this one. The Artistic Stamper can be found in Kent in the UK, it’s a great shop with plenty of crafty goodies to find. Their main focus is red rubber stamps which Jennie has been designing and manufacturing for over 24 years. Tattered Angel products especially the High Impact paints work brilliantly with these stamps as the paints are very fluid in nature which allows you to create a thin layer of paint perfect for stamping with.

Gemma’s Creative Process

Step 1

Cut and prepare all the piece of card and paper needed for the book. Make sure to include card and paper for the 5 signatures. Use something sturdy for the covers, I used Cereal packaging, and something to wrap the covers in.

Step 2

Take the 5 thickest pieces of white card that will be the covers or outer layer for each signature and start decorating them by applying paint to a Gel Press plate with a brayer and pressing the card onto the paint to transfer it to the card. Keep going until all the card is covered both on the front and back. Keep a piece of ‘mop up’ card next to you, this became the panels that decorated the cover of my book.

Step 3

Keep building up the layers on the card by using stamps on the Gel Press plate and transferring the images and by stamping directly to the card.

Step 4

Once dry fold the the card in half and decorate the fronts by applying paint through a mask and doodling for extra interest. Cut panels to decorate the cover and add detail to them in the same way.

Step 5

To complete the signatures add the rest of the card or paper inside the decorated sleeves and put aside.

Step 6

Now create the cover of the book by covering the cereal box with file paper, these will be the front and back covers of the book

Step 7

Attach these together by making a binding from Duct tape before gluing the panels in place that decorate the cover

Step 8

Puncture three holes evenly through the folds of the signatures and the duct tape, checking to make sure everything lines up before stitching the signatures to the binding.
