This weeks Guest Designer is Ellie G from Less Cake More Frosting. She has shared with us today an amazing tutorial for a canvas project. You will have to go and see her craft inspiring blog {click here}.
Look at the super fun spring project that you can make with the fantastic products from Canvas Corp….
It involves a few of my die hard favorites:
Canvas
Freezer Paper
Fonts
Quotes
Paint
Polka-Dots
And little ruffly flowers.
I started with a 12×12 Canvas Corp. canvas in the natural color. I gotta admit that this is my first meeting with the “natural” color. Our first “date” if you will. Let’s just say that I’ll be callin’ you for a 2nd date, Natural. I liked you A-LOT!
You’re going to need a solid surface up inside the canvas to iron on. I can usually find a book that does the trick. This one fit perfect.
It won’t damage the book.
Promise.
I’m kind of a HUGE FAN of freezer paper stenciling! It’s the MOST FUN way to put words and pictures on almost anything.
There’s some pretty good instructions about using freezer paper HERE. Essentially, it’s got a waxy side that you can iron onto fabric for a tight “seal”. Then you can paint over it and use it like a stencil.
I usually cut out my words/pattern/pictures with a digital cutter. But you can also do it with an exacto knife. And really simple patterns/pictures can be cut with regular scissors.
I also used my cutter and a design program to design and then cut out a SUPER swirly tree from this FANTASTIC polka dot paper from Canvas Corp.
Brown and cream polka dots?
Yes please!
I covered all of it with a coat of Mod Podge, to seal down the paper and give the paint an extra layer of protection.
Then I found an awesome little scrap of pink material and sewed a running stitch down the side of a strip about 2 inches wide.
I rolled that fabric into tiny buds and just hand sewed the buds together so they wouldn’t unravel.
Then I hot glued them to my spring-ee tree. So that it would look like it is blossoming into spring.
I love the 3-D look of the art. And the way that the paper, canvas and material all have different tactile aspects. I kind of adore 3-D art that makes you want to reach out and touch it!!
In fact, you might have to put up a “do not touch the art” sign next to your new masterpiece. Just because it’s so stinkin’ tempting!
Welcome Spring!
Sooner than later…yes?
I’m about done with this chilly weather!
Thanks Ellie G!
