We love holiday themed projects because they are so fun to create and we sometimes forget that now is the time to really think about making handmade gifts for the holiday season. There is still time to gather some of your craft supplies and make a little something for those who are special on your Christmas list. You can make the gift unique to each person or make the same gift for each. When it comes to gift making and giving, it is always a nice idea to make something functional or decorative that is designed for each person. Jorunn kicks our series off with this fabulous mini calendar that is perfect for the kitchen, study or studio and each time a date is checked you will be remembered for your sweet gift.
My favorite Christmas presents are those that are homemade, and today I will show you a handmade calendar. This is a gift that does not take long to make but with the right papers is a gift that is sure to come on the wall and can be enjoyed through a whole year.
One of my favorite printed papers from 7gypsies is from the Gypsy Moments Collection – Take Our Breath Away. It is a great background paper and the colors match so many things. So when I started this project I began with this paper and coordinated the rest to match. 7gypsies has so many cool papers with so many great sayings, art and details, that the project only took 3 sheets of paper to create. The weight is also an 80# cardstock, so it makes a project like a calendar much sturdier and ready to last the entire year.
I wanted a calendar that would be seen all year and would be positive and filled with bright, beautiful colors. So the calendar does not change, only the small calendar sheet which can be changed each month.
We found a great site with the 2017 calendar by month that you can download for free and add them to your calendar gifts. Print them on white cardstock, a simple background paper or maybe something with a little texture. Free Printable Calendar 2017. You may have to adjust the size depending on your project size.
Cut pieces from these papers or you favorite 7gypsies printed papers to add the details, find fun sayings, inspirational quotes or pretty artwork. You can also use the remaining paper to cover the back of each calendar card or you can glue the cards back to back and you will only have 6 cards in total.
I always have to have something around the edges of each piece of art and the Brown High Impact Paint is great for distressing the edges of your paper projects, you can also paint objects that don’t match such as charms, resin, plastic and other decor pieces with this paint, it will stick to virtually any surface. I applied it with my fingers so I would have a little more control over how much I added.
Add charms, flowers, pen tips and other mixed media embellishments to make it personal. Make the calendar the size of a standard frame leaving a bit around the edges and you can remove the glass and put it into the frame and the back easel will allow it to stand on a desk or shelf or clip on a vintage hanger like Jorunn found and it will hang anywhere.
