We love being by the sea, thinking about the sea and sea themed crafts. With summer here, beaches filling up, people traveling to their beach houses, cabins and other places near the water, we thought it would be fun to share some nautical inspirations throughout the summer. The water has a calming effect on most of us even if you never step foot in it. The sound of the waves, the calmness of water and the beauty that surrounds it are soothing to the soul. Nautical themes come in a wide range of colors from very traditional to very natural and from water color to bright fun beach balls.
Angélique Jarrier created this sweet little canvas as part of our Canvas Corp Brands Creative Crew 4×4 Challenge. Each member of the crew was asked to create a canvas that represents their personal creative style so we can only guess where Angelique’s creative mind must be often…at the beach.
Here is a tutorial for you to follow to achieve an altered canvas in a mixed media way. You will see there different techniques for using Glimmer Mist. For example you can mix them with texture paste for bright and colorful textures and also use them to paint an image with glimmer.
Materials Used:
Tattered Angels:
– Glimmer Mist – Gold
– Glimmer Mist 2oz – Icicle Blue

Tools & Extra Goodies Used: Stencil; Brush; Texture paste; Gesso (white); Glue; Embellishments
Step 1: The first step is to grab your canvas, paint it with white gesso, and then dry the canvas with a heat gun.
Step 2: The second step is to create a colorful texture paste by mixing white paste with our different colors of Glimmer Mist.
Step 3: The third step is to use the texture paste and a stencil to create a textured background.
Step 4: While the texture paste dries, color a picture with Glimmer Mist using a brush.
Step 5: The next step is to place our image in the center and decorate our canvas with different embellishments.
Step 6: For a ‘magical’ twist, I created wings for my mermaid. Consider using a fast-drying and water resistant ink pad.
Add the final touches and your project is finished! This sweet little canvas is perfect for shelves at the lake cabin, decor at your beach home or place it somewhere special when the water is far away to remind you of the sea. Stay tuned for more nautical inspiration all summer long.
Happy Creating!!!
