Who doesn’t love to bake or cook? Ok, ok you don’t have to love to do either, but who doesn’t love to eat? Preserving family recipes passed down from generation to generation is something we love to talk about. This latest project from CCB Crew Member Nicoletta is a great way to preserve those family recipes in a handmade book. This would be the perfect gift for the special mom’s in the family this coming Mother’s Day. Even making smaller versions for members of the family so they can hold on to those traditions and share with their new families. We love that Nicoletta used the Canvas Corp Farmhouse Collection to create this gorgeous recipe book.
From the moment I saw the Farmhouse Kitchen Collection I thought I would create a personal recipe book. I used the beautiful selection of cards that are part of the Mix & Match Pad- Farmhouse Kitchen.
I love every illustrations, every font and the color combination, these papers ensure a perfect result.
Materials Used
- CCB Mix & Match Pad- Farmhouse Kitchen
- CCB 4×6 File Folders – Farmhouse Kitchen
- CCB Recipe Cards – Farmhouse Kitchen
- CCB 12 x 12 Burlap Sheet – Natural Burlap
- CCB Tags – Recipe Cards
- Ring binder
- 7 Gypsies Cutlery: Antique Silver (3 pieces)
- Tattered Angels Glimmer Glam – Blue Topaz, Roses R Red
- Tattered Angels Glimmer Glam – Espresso Bean
Tools Used
- Handpunch
- Glue
- Scissors
Step 1 – To begin I took a simple ring binder A5 format and I covered it with a piece of white canvas. (you can use any size binder, just adjust the measurements to match your binder.) I used for project Mix & Match Pad- Farmhouse Kitchen. I cut it up the papers and canvas in different ways and I pasted them on the cover and in the back. The artwork looks like oversized stamps. On the cover I applied a square piece of black paper and 7gypsies Cutlery: Antique Silver. I cut from the printed fabric of the set a carrot and strawberry . For the title I assembled a piece of burlap, I put on it a piece of canvas and finally the Recipe Title. Glue all these into place. You will want to use a wet glue that has a strong hold to ensure the mini silverware stay in place.
Step 2 – I lined the inside with a burlap cut from a 12×12 sheet and others Mix & Match Pad- Farmhouse Kitchen cut-outs. I pasted everything with my gel medium matte but you can use your favorite glue, I don’t recommend a tape runner as the items won’t stay in place well enough.
Step 3 – I created many chapters like: recipes for sauces, soups, burghers, dessert, juices. For each chapter I composed a cover with A5 format sheet and different illustrations from printed fabrics. You can add pages that are smaller into the book, like the 4″x6″ Kitchen File Folders and allow a few to stick out to give it dimension.
Add little touches of jute cord that won’t get in the way but add a nice look. These little recipe tags are great for adding reminders, listing your favorite meals, noting substations or put one in the front of the book to note who the cookbook belongs too.
The File Folders allow you to make a mini book inside your book and you can fill them with 4’x6″ recipe cards where you can jot down your favorite recipe, family recipes or a recipe a friend shared.
Step 4 – Inside the chapters I inserted pages with suggestions or short recipes. Others pages are composed of recipes cards and file folders of Farmhouse Kitchen Collection. I you have larger recipes or need more room to write you can cut up the Canvas Corp Journal Lines on Ivory Paper.
Step 5 – I added a bit of color using Glimmer Glam – Espresso Bean, Glimmer Glam – Roses R Red, Glimmer Glam – Blue Topaz. I applied the paints on printed fabric and on paper.
If you have any blank books just hanging around, want to create your own using 7gypsies rings or pick up a stack to make one for each member of your family, we hope you are inspired to create cookbooks for your family this year. Start now and you will be ready when the holidays arrive or gather all the goodies and create one for Mom or for an upcoming bride to be. So many options, so many recipes, so much fun!!!!
