I love altering all kinds of boxes that come with for example perfumes, shoes, jewellery and so on. They become a new life and can be given away as present packaging, altered small drawers that withhold all kinds of tiny treasures. I have several in my craft area I have altered and filled with beautiful ribbons, for example. This particular one is going to withhold a wedding present and hopefully can be used over and over again by the newlyweds for something else in the future.
Products used by Sanna:
Tattered Angels Decor & DIY paint – Crystal, Scarlet
Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist – Pink Poodle
Glitter paste – Viva Decor
Paper glue – Aleene´s Tacky Glue
Patterned paper – Cosmo Cricket DeLovely
Viva Decor Inka Gold, Sanna Lippert Designs stencils
Paper doily, Velvet ribbon, Sequin ribbon, Wooden blocks as box “feet”
Liquid pearls – bronze, Chipboard – Wycinanka
Paper roses, Decor hearts, Faber-Castell gel medium, Decoupage adhesive
Stencils, Palette knives, Paint brushes, Palette, Water tank brush, Heat tool, Corner Chomper
First mix the Decor & DIY paint tones together. I mixed the white and the red one in a ratio of one part white & two parts red. That created this beatuful pink color. The great thing about this paint is that you don’t need to pretreat the box in any way (no sanding etc. needed) – just paint! I have attached tiny wooden “feet” to the box and also painted those the same color.
Next, I cut two sheets of the pink patterned paper into a suitable size and rounded the corners with a Corner Chomper tool. The paper is adhered to the box with decoupage adhesive. I’ve also treated the surface of the paper with the same adhesive to make it more durable.
After creating the base, I only needed to add decoration to the box lid, so I adhered a paper doilie with decoupage adhesive in its place. Then I added glitter paste and Inka Gold (in pink) through stencil onto the lid. After they were dry, I adhered some paper roses and chipboard pieces around the doily in two areas. The paper roses as well as the chipboard got a Pink Poodle Glimmer Mist treatment with a water tank brush. That added a nice shimmer to them and also created a little more depth to the flowers. Finally I added some liquid pearls, glitter glue and a gold sprayed drawerknob into the middle and some velvet as well as sequin ribbon around the edges for additional interest. The ribbons finish off the look of this box.
I´ve also created a little walk-through video of this box, if you would like to take a better look at it.
I hope you enjoyed this little altered project idea!!
Happy crafting!!!
