With a name like Canvas Corp it only makes sense we would have a canvas scrapbook layout and Marie shows us how it is done. The Canvas Corp offers a range of 12×12 fabrics that are the perfect backdrop for layouts, the sheets come in a range of fabrics canvas, burlap and denim in a wide range of colors. All 12×12 sheets are single sheets of fabric cut to 12 x12 and can be used as they are or cut into any shape or size and perfect for die cutting, sewing, inking, dying, coloring, watercoloring, painting, bleaching, misting and more. They are natural fabric, so they will react uniquely with your supplies, you can add gesso to any of the fabrics to give them a base when that is helpful. You can also paint with Tattered Angels Glimmer Glaze to create a resist before you apply dyes or mists. You can also tint the entire canvas surface with mist to turn it into the color of your choice, make it ombre, tie dye or watercolor. When dry you may want to iron it flat or leave it just like it is depending on the look you are going for.
The nice part about working with canvas is the way it handles inks, mists, paints and color, they just pop. The colors are so rich and vibrant. If you are choosing to tint the fabric the more you add the deeper the color or you can paint with an opaque paint such as High Impact or Acrylic paints you will cover the canvas for a completely different look. The natural fibers also allow you apply just about craft applications such as stamping, stenciling, iron-on, rub-ons, resist, etc. Try your favorite applications you do on paper onto canvas and see if you love the results as much as we do.
We also offer a full line of Printed Fabrics which give you a nice base to start with a simple design that is so ready to be created upon.

Marie here!!! Canvas Corp 12×12 Canvas Sheets really are so versatile. You can use them for a lot of DIY projects like pillows or bags, or you could cut it up to smaller pieces and stretch it like a painters canvas. There are many ways to use it that have yet to be explored. I decided to use my 12×12 piece instead of a white canvas as a base for a layout. Once you master your 12×12 sheet you can explore many of these same techniques on totes, aprons, pillows, pillows, tree skirts, stockings, coasters, wine bags and more.
To create the look I was going for, I started with covering the piece with a thin layer of gesso. You can play with the canvas with and without gesso to see how different they look and decide what will work best for you. After it was dry, I spray on my Glimmer Mists. Keep in mind that canvas is 100% cotton and will shrink a bit depending on the products you use, giving your page extra character.
As you can see on the detailed pictures, I added both stamping and some texture using a stencil and heavy gesso. The best inks to use are pigment inks or fabric inks, the others will work but won’t be as rich in color. The stamp looks very interesting when stamped over the fabric and paper to get a layered look. Don’t be afraid to stamp in layers on the canvas, it looks great and you are basically creating your own printed fabric with a stamp and blank canvas.
Do you have difficulties using patterned papers? Well, don´t be afraid to cut them into pieces like I did here. The flowers come from a 7 Gypsies Gypsy Moments paper, along with sayings that top each part of the page off just right. The Gypsy Moments Cards are also great embellishments for layouts and mixed media pages. Use the blank Apothecary Labels to write a little note or title that makes your layout more personal.
Adding touches of pink thread, cheese cloth and cords finishes off the page so well. You finished page will slip into your page protectors, can be adhered to book board or frame it for all to see.
I hope I have inspired you to use your Canvas Sheets in a new way today. Thank you for stopping by today!
