Day 3 of our fantastic blog hop with Petaloo is all about DIY Christmas Stockings. We are excited to share this amazing stocking Denise Hahn from the Petaloo Design Team has featured on the
Petaloo Blog today and then three beautiful stockings from our Crew. Stockings are one of our favorite blank surfaces for the holidays and Canvas Corp has a great selection of
Blank Stockings in burlap and canvas and in a few different shapes and sizes. Starting with a blank stocking makes it possible to design stockings that match with the decor of your home, fit your personal style and show off something you made. Make an identical set for the family or make just one special stocking.
If you don’t find the stocking you are looking for, why not create you own like Denise shows us today on the Petaloo Blog, along with her appliqué technique that is simply amazing with the burlap.
Stop by the
Petaloo Blog for all the details, but first let us show you three more amazing stockings that we hope will inspire you to create your own stockings this holiday season. The added touch of the hand painted DIY Petaloo Flowers lets you design the stocking in just the right colors from the vintage ivory and olive Denise chose, to the more traditional stockings Tonya and Debbie show off and then we take a very vintage approach with Tattered Angels “tea dyed” DIY Flowers, the nice part is you can to choose what works best for you!!!! We love creative freedom.
Stockings can be designed and hung by the chimney with care left empty and waiting for Santa to arrive or they can be filled with vintage toys to make the perfect holiday mantel decor. Tonya gathers up a fun combination of embellishments in red, green, white and gold that she brings together to make the perfect bouquet for your stocking. The added texture and pops of color from the DIY Petaloo Flowers she created add just the right finishing touch.
Canvas Corp Stockings are designed with a rustic style in mind. The sewn edges are exposed giving them a great handmade look. You can stitch or glue trim to the cuff to add a pop of color and to make the design your own. Rickrack, ribbon, lace, ball fringe, tassels, the options are endless. Tonya shared, “I don’t own a sewing machine and I sure didn’t want to hand sew everything to the stocking so I used Beacon Adhesives Fabri-Tac. It “grabs” fast and dries quick which I love! I started by adding from my own stash green Rickrack and red pom poms to the cuff of the stocking.”
These handmade stockings also make the perfect gifts. Decorate them for someone special and fill them with your holiday gifts. There are so many great techniques you can use to color the DIY Flowers from Petaloo. Tonya misted two of the larger DIY flowers with Gold Glimmer Mist and the smaller DIY flowers she sprayed with Plain Jane Baseboard Fire Mist into a disposable bowl and added a couple of drops of water and mixed. With a small paint brush applied the mixture to the flower and let dry. You have a choice of misting onto the flowers or painting them with your favorite paint and the fabric brings out the bright bold color of the mist. Once the larger flowers are dry she used the leftover Fire Baseboard mist and lightly applied color around the center. This really gives the flowers a natural, realistic look.
Tonya shows us how great die cutting burlap can be as she makes her own leaves for her holiday ensemble. “I used the Holly Branch die cut to cut out three holly leaves from a 12×12 sheet of Green Burlap. I then applied Mod Podge to both sides of the leaves and once dry I spritzed on one side Kiwi Glimmer Mist.”
Bring it all together and wow you have transformed your blank burlap stocking into a work of art.
Tools Used: Scissors; Diecut Machine; Holly Branch Diecut; Small Paint Brush
Now onto Debbie’s stocking where she used very similar products, but the end result has such an amazing look and feel and is perfect for the more traditional and fancy holiday decor style.
Glue pieces of burlap in place to create the toe and heel of your stocking. Canvas Corp Flowers make a great base for Petaloo flowers to become amazing flower centers.
Each flower is handmade and no two are alike. They are a great accent piece with the entire Petaloo Flower Collection.
What you will need:
Petaloo DIY Flowers
Assorted Laces and Trimmings
Tools: Glue, Scissors
Our final stocking is oh so vintage as we start with a very
vintage stocking from 7gypsies. These elongated stockings have the look and feel of an old sock stocking and are made from a vintage style burlap.
We just love the look of these long stockings with vintage embellishments.
Step 1: Mist the DIY Flowers with Walnut Gold Glimmer Mist to achieve a tea dye look with just a few pumps of mist. You get the look instantly. Set aside to dry.
Step 2: String a cord across the front of the stocking sewing or tying it into place and then tie strips of burlap across the string to get this look.
Step 3: Hang vintage pieces, flowers, ephemera, old Christmas tags and charms from the burlap fringe you created. We added them with 7gypsies vintage pins.
Step 4: Add a piece of paper stitched in place for the toe or you can add a vintage piece of fabric. The edge is adorned with 7gypsies Princela crystals for a nice touch.
What you will need:
Petaloo DIY Flowers
Beacon’s 3 in 1 Glue

Such creative stockings – love that each is unique and beautiful in it’s own way! The burlap ones remind me of some primitive mini stockings I cross stitched for my Christmas tree. The canvas stockings make me itch to pull out some stencils! Just darling and perfect for my DIY style! Thanks for the inspiration!
