Hey everyone – it’s Cathy Frailey with a fun little project that’s different and shows off your gypsy spirit! I had a couple of rusty grain scoops and I knew I needed to make a gypsy parlour out of one!
It’s a cozy little tent-like parlour that has come to life with the help of 7gypsies!
Materials used to make the Gypsy Parlour:
Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist – Coffee Shop
Architextures™ Findings – Found Glass Bottles Collection and Painted Candlesticks
Architextures™ Treasures – Stacked Wicker Trunks
Architextures™ Junque Pack – Parlour
Architextures™ 12×12 Paper – Old Window and Ornate Frames
Canvas Corp – Scrap Burlap/Canvas
Cheesecloth, Silk ribbon, Skewers
Ephemera/jewels/doo dads for embellishing
Mini wood blocks, Rusty wire, Battery-operated light string
E6000 glue, Scissors, Needle and thread
Old metal scoop as your base (you can also use a plastic one and distress it yourself)
Take 2 skewers and cut them in half; stick them through the 2 holes in the scoop (cut side down) and glue with E6000, both around the top hole and on the base. Don’t worry about glue showing/dripping – your embellishing will hide it!
While the glue was drying, I cut out my seated Gypsy from the Old Window paper, folded her along the rug line, and added some burlap underneath for more realism.
I scanned the Ornate Frames paper (pictures of the gypsies) and made them smaller in Photoshop, then printed them out.
I then cut a couple pieces of cheesecloth and doused them in Glimmer Mist for vintage coloring.
Just figure out how much you want hanging around the overall piece; you’ll be layering/draping them to look tent-like.
Next, I worked on some embellishments.
I added pieces of wire to the jewels for hanging and some burlap to the back of the Architextures bottles to make them stand out better. I made a rough little pillow from scrap fabric and a long footstool by gluing mini blocks together, then covering with burlap and wire. I cut part of a piece from the Parlour Junque Pack and used a lighter to age the edges a bit for the rug.
Then it’s time to put everything together the way you want it!
I mounted the pictures with a foam square, hung my stones in various places, and placed my chosen Architextures and doo dads. And don’t forget the lights!
It was fun staging it!
I think the lights add a touch of reality – sitting in your tent-like parlour with a string of lights hanging around, surrounded by your bottles, trunks and junque!
Happy gypsy crafting!!!
