Today, our Crew Member, Lynda Lindley uses her skills and pieces of leftover upholstery to transform a natural burlap table runner into a rustic centrepiece for her dining table.
A few years ago, I recovered the seats on our dining room chairs. I have been holding onto the extra upholstery fabric all this time and waiting for just the right project to do with it. I didn’t have enough to make a complete tablecloth, but did have enough to add to the center of this awesome burlap table runner. So in a little little less than two hours, I created this beautiful simple runner for my table that transformed my dining room.
Materials used:
Canvas Corp Table Runner – Burlap
Leftover upholstery fabric
iron on seam tape (heat n bond)
scissors, sewing machine, iron, yardstick, pins
Begin by measuring the fabric you want to use for the center of the runner.
My fabric was not long enough to use in one strip, so I had to match the pattern and combine to strips together.
I used seam tape to join the two pieces together.
Once my upholstery fabric was joined together, I pinned the fabric to the burlap runner.
I used my sewing machine to add the fabric to the burlap runner.
I chose a plain straight stitch with coordinating colored threads.
Once it was stitched together, I ironed the entire piece again to smooth it out.
This project is a great way to easily coordinate your dining room to match using left over fabric.
It would be fun to make napkin rings or even placemats from the same fabric to make your entire table elegant!
Happy crafting!!!
