Hey, creative souls! I am Karen Crossen and today I’d like to share with you my mixed media artboard.
Some days, I spend a lot of time in my sketch book. I doodle, I write down quotes that I like and I make up my own challenges. For this project, I used a noun generator to come up with a list of words – I chose clocks – and I had a list of quotes that I wanted to illustrate. This is how I arrived at this time-themed project…
This one quote that I chose just matched up perfectly with clocks! Of course, I didn’t have the clocks that on paper or any clock embellishments so I created my own clock tissue paper! It was super easy and turned out pretty darn awesome!
Karen used the following products:
7gypsies Architextures Mixed Media paper artboard 8×10
Tattered Angels Glimmer Glaze – Satchel
Tattered Angels Glimmer Glam – Espresso Bean
Tattered Angels Decor and DIY Paint – Ivory
7gypsies Architextures Parchment Rub-ons – Build and Pose
7gypsies Architextures Short Base – Doilies
Canvas Corp Cardstock Paper – Kraft 80#
Tissue Paper, Paper Artsy Dusty Teal
Washi tape, buttons, rusty bottle cap, twine, matte gel
Paint Brush, Scissors, Printer
Get your computer out and look for images of black and white clocks. Use a document program or a photoshop program to put all the clock images together. Take a piece tissue paper and cut it just a little bit bigger than a computer piece of paper. Tape the tissue paper down and carefully run it through your printer. It might take a couple of tries – but it is awesome to be able to make your own printed tissue paper!
Cover the Artboard with Matte Gel Medium and carefully place your clock tissue paper down. Make sure you have a good amount of matte gel medium on your brush as you brush the medium over the top of the tissue paper. You will get texture from tissue paper wrinkles, that is okay and looks great when you are done! Then take Glimmer Glaze in Satchel and brush on a coat all over the tissue paper. Let it dry. Then take the Glimmer Glam in Espresso Bean and brush it all over the tissue paper. Then take an extra piece of tissue paper and blot around, picking up the extra Glam! Let it dry!
Print out the text onto cardstock, I tried tearing it and cutting it, but I really liked the straight edge better. Use a black pen to go around the text boxes. Use teal paint on your finger and Tattered Angels Decor and DIY Paint in Ivory to lightly go around the edge. Pick out some button embellishments, Architextures Doily, and some twine to decorate the corner. Also, randomly, use small pieces of 7gypsies Parchment Rub-ons around the artboard.
Voila – you are done! Enjoy your finished piece!
