Today, we get to know Tammy Brackett.
I live in Richmond Virginia on historic Marion Hill. According to historic markers, Marion Hill is the former outpost of Chief Powhatan of the Powhatan Indian Tribe. I live on the hill where Powhatan’s daughter, Pocahontas, played as a child.
One mile south of me is the marker that notes the Surrender of Richmond during the Civil War and one mile north is where the Union entered Richmond. I’m two blocks from The Clark Palmore house, a historic property dating from 1819.
My design style is eclectic. I believe creating should be a flow and I’m never worried about doing anything the “proper” way. I am a frugalista and recycle boxes, packaging, and other trash into art elements and art pieces. I love bohemian/gypsy design. I also love simple elegance.
I was introduced to recycled art projects by Jennibellie, who remains my main art teacher, mentor and tutor! I also dig Shannon Green, Toni Burt, Tamara LaPorte and Teesha Moore.
I’m inspired by recycled art. I believe that we create too much trash. I love making things from trash and keeping stuff OUT of the landfill.
I taught third grade for 7 years and then ESL for 3 but that was a long time ago. I also did a few workshops with a kids cancer organization here in Richmond. I would love to do more teaching.
…any kind of art. Beading, painting, making books from cereal boxes, mixed media, collage. Anything artsy makes me happy.
I managed a children’s marionette theatre for years and I was a marionette puppeteer.
Don’t wait to “learn” how to do something, just do it. Don’t wait to purchase exactly what you need to create with, just use what you have. Technique is NOT as important as just DOING something. It doesn’t even matter how it looks in the end. The process is more important than how something ends up. Creativity is based on spirit- inspiration means being IN SPIRIT with your inner self. Pick up a brush or pencil or a crayon and HAVE FUN!!!
