The Farmhouse Apron

We just released a new line called Farmhouse Kitchen and we are in LOVE with these new items. One of the inspiring projects that was created using this new collection was the Farmhouse Apron.

I know this apron may look a bit tricky to re-create, but trust me when I say its SO EASY! Yes, we created this with a sewing machine, but we also glued many of the pieces as well. Don’t let the sewing factor take away from the “do-ability” of this project. Plus, below is a project sheet that you can save and print out for later. If you have any questions on how this apron was made, feel free to comment below!

THE FARMHOUSE APRON

How To:

Cut a trapezoid shape from the french script printed canvas. The top should measure approx. 6” in width and the bottom should measure approx 8” in width, with the height as 7.” Mist the fabric with the Simply Sheer Tangy Lime. Cut the artichoke from the Farmhouse Kitchen printed canvas panel and sew it to the painted french script canvas. Cut a 12” x 1” piece of red burlap and ruffle. Sew it to the top of the painted french script canvas so that 1/2” shows on the top. You’ve now created the pocket! Sew the pocket by sewing the left, right and bottom sides of the pocket to the canvas apron.

To create the ruffle across the center of the apron, cut a piece of 36” x 3” red burlap, a piece of 20” x 2” green burlap and 1 yd of canvas fringe. Ruffle the red burlap, pinning into place as you go. Sew the ruffled red burlap down the center. Now layer the piece of avocado burlap onto the ruffled burlap, and the canvas fringe onto the avocado burlap. Do a zigzag stitch down the center of the strip. Then sew the strip of layered fabric to the apron by doing a straight stitch as pictured.farmhouseapron2

The tags come pre-cut and pre-sewn for convenience. Sew a red stitch over the existing stitch. Cut artwork from the canvas panel and glue to tag. Stack three buttons and connect them with a piece of red waxed cord. Then glue or sew the tags and buttons to the apron.

The multi-pocket apron comes with 4 small pockets and 2 large pockets. To decorate the 4 small pockets, cut a piece of fabric to fit the front of the pocket. Before gluing to the apron, sew a zigzag stitch around the edges of the fabric. Then glue onto the cover of the pocket. Glue on various decor elements like the paper mason jar, ruffled burlap, etc.

Using a canvas mini round, cut the pig icon from the Farmhouse Kitchen Panel and glue to the center. Stitch around the outside with red thread. Attach to the avocado flower with a mini red clothespin and glue the flower to the pocket.

We really love the uniqueness of this apron as well as its handmade feel.
