Vintage Toe Tags – Treat Your Halloween Visitors

Vintage creepy is always fun when the gypsies are creating for Halloween.  Just as the gypsies live their gypsy lives trying new things, capturing the unexpected and using found objects that in some cases are a little crazy, but oh so fun.  So when one of our resident gypsies sent in these Toe Tags we fell in love, where else will you find amazing looking Toe Tags that you hostly would want to share with your trick or treating friends   These tags are perfect for a housewarming gift, to attach to treats, maybe you can write a trick on the back or to decorate the “bodies” in your home.

Vintage Toe Tags

At Halloween time is there any better way to tie off a bag of treats or make dinner place cards than with toe tags–straight off a bloody corpse?

I am Betsy Skagen of Paper Calliope and last year I found a big box of vintage Sears, Roebuck and Co. tags at an estate sale. They seemed to “scream” Halloween.

It is easy to make these hair-raising toe tags without visiting your local morgue. Each tag features a punny victim’s name and hints about the creepy cause of death–whether it be zombie or a great big knife.

Tutorial to make Halloween Toe Tags

Scavenge up some vintage tags or print morgue-like information on cardstock and cut into a tag shape. Remove and set aside the string. Then, adhere some of Canvas Corp’s fantastic Halloween themed paper onto the back of tag.

Next cut out some Halloween graphics. You can find many online vendors who sell high-resolution collage sheets. Use a blending tool to distress the edges of your graphics with brown or black ink and adhere the graphics to the back of the tag.

Add embellishments. You can use a variety of sources for embellishments. For example, I painted black acrylic paint onto plastic greenery, I made rosettes from Canvas Corp paper and I purchased embellishments from a local craft store.

To make the blood stains on the back of the tag dribble a little red distress stain onto the tag and carefully dab and smear with a paper towel.

Give the tage an aged look by distressing the edgess with brown ink. After you put the string back on your tag, you can go ahead and tie the tag to a Halloween goodie bag or tie it around  a napkin to use as a place card.
