Staying true to her rustic style but this time making it a little bit more colourful and bright, Karen Crossen is sharing with us her latest wood piece project.
Why did I make this project? Well… I just wanted to make something pretty! I wanted to use pinks and jump out of my normal brown, rustic zone! I tried an old technique that I love – using texture paste and added in Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist and Chalkboard sprays for the color. It worked SO well! Sometimes when you just play around and take some art chances – things really do turn out awesome!
Materials used for the project:
Wooden board (8×10)
Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist – Precious Metals, Golden Lime and Italian Sunset
Tattered Angels Chalkboard – Polka Dot Pink and Clover
Tattered Angels High Impact Paint – Metallic White
Tattered Angels Glimmer Glam – Espresso Bean
7gypsies Gypsy Seamstress Paper
Canvas Corp Cardstock
Crackle Paste, Cream Paint, Matte Medium, Green Paint, Yellow Paint, Musical Note Tissue Paper, black pen
Baby Wipes, Scissors, Parchment Paper, Printer, Credit Card
Start off with Texture Paste, Parchment Paper and a stencil that looks like a leaf. Use the stencil with the texture paste on top of the parchment paper, play around and find the the thickness that works for you. Usually, a little thicker than the stencil works the best and I spread it in with a credit card! Spray the wet texture paste with the Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist in Apricot Jelly, Precious Metal and Chalkboard Polka Dot Pink. Let it dry overnight and then when it is dry you will be able to peel the paste off the parchment paper! I tend to make a whole bunch of them in different sizes and colors so that I can play with them and also keep them for other projects!
Paint the wood piece with green and yellow paints. Then take a piece of music and copy it onto some tissue paper in your printer. Using matte medium glued= it down onto the wooden board. To tone down the pattern and colors wipe Tatttered Angels Glimmer Glam in Expresso Mean over the tissue paper. When the Glimmer Glam is dry, paint the High Impact Paint over the board. Then using a credit card scrape off the paint to reveal a little bit of the dark paint below. Then go around the edges of the board with cream paint mixed with crackle paint.
When the Crackle Paint is dry and crackled, spray the board with Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist Precious Metal. It has just a perfect amount of pink in it! While that is drying, take the 7Gypsy Seamstress paper and spray it randomly with Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist Lime Light and Tattered Angels Chalkboard Clover to make your stem and leaves. Assemble all the pieces and use Matte Medium to glue them down to the board. Use your computer and printer to print out the words onto brown cardstock. Glue down the words with matte medium as well. Use a black pen to doodle on the leaves.
Then when it is all dry – you are done and have a wonderful piece of art!
I keep mine on the table in the living room!
Happy crafting!!!
