As part of the new Architextures line, 7gypsies Artboards are thick pressed boards covered with a slightly textured white paper to create the perfect mixed media surface. So it’s like working on paper but… with the sturdiness of a board… cool, right?
Our Crew member, Gina B Ahrens, used the 8×10 Artboard to design a powerful piece called ‘Magic Canvas’ with the illusion of depth and great colour contrasts. The ‘ripped’ grey board reveals a dramatic, blue-ish face… is it magic?!

‘When I received the Mixed Media Paper Art Board along with the Relics And Artifacts Visage Face, well I will be honest, I looked at them and thought….hmm I have no ideas. I was intrigued by the art board.’ – says Gina.
‘I was not sure why you would cover a board with paper, but soon wondered what would happen if we had something emerging from the background, revealing itself from the covering to emerge into the light. I knew as soon as I had the thought that the face had to be a part of the emergence. Like the bright light of dawn the artist emerges from the bland chaos to reveal their true bright self.’ – explains her inspiration Gina.
What a great idea! You could use our square Artboards and make a set of matching projects to display together in a series. You could even get the kids involved in designing their own magical creatures emerging from inside the canvas – what a fun project for the Easter weekend!
