Autumn table setting with Placemats and Coasters

Sally Mitton is one of our Canvas Corp Home Decor Guest Designers and she’s had some fun playing with our canvas table setting elements. She made two sets of coasters and a set of table mats – clean and simple, they will work for any theme you have in your kitchen or on your table.

We’re sure you’ll love the ideas!

Products Sally used to make her table setting:

Canvas Corp Large Placemats
Canvas Corp Round Coasters
Canvas Corp Square Coasters
Canvas Corp Fabric Panel – Beans and Bags
Canvas Corp Fabric Panel – Vino and Ale
Sewing machine
Frixion Pen
Fabric stick and spray
Various threads

Tea and coffee coasters

I hope you enjoy making this simple and effective project, you can use different coloured threads to match your colour scheme. Enjoy your cuppa, friends! – says Sally.

Take your themed fabric panel and cut out the elements that you would like to use on your placemats, making sure you leave a narrow edge around each piece. Place the pieces you want to appliqué on top of the coaster and spray with Stick and Spray to keep them in place.

Select the stitch you want to use on your sewing machine, I used a simple zig-zag over locking stitch.

Sew around each applique piece on to the coaster.

Next, sew around the edges, if you wish to, to stop any fraying.

Here are the completed coasters. They have the clean fresh look about them that I really like.

You can use any coloured threads that you like to match your decor.

Even the backs of these coasters look pretty but if you would prefer to back them with felt, you could add this by cutting out a square felt, slightly smaller than the coaster and spray sticking or tacking these on to the backs.
My preference is to leave them just as they are.

Wine Coasters

In the first project, I made tea/coffee cup coasters; in this project, I am making wine glass coasters along the same simple and pretty lines. – explains Sally.

Take your themed fabric panel and cut out the elements that you would like to appliqué on your coasters, making sure you leave a narrow edge around each piece.

Using Stick And Spray glue, attach the applique to the coasters.

Select the stitch you want to use on your sewing machine and sew around each applique piece on to the coaster.

Next, sew around the edges, if you wish to, to stop any fraying.

I used a variety of stitches on these coasters and different coloured threads add to the effect.

Table mats

I hope you enjoy making this simple and effective project, I used the Canvas Corp Large Placements and decorated them with machine embroidery to give clean lines as well as a bold statement. They would look wonderful decorating any table.

Decide on what theme or pattern you are going to do on paper. Then take a frixion pen and transfer the design onto each placemat.

Select the stitch you want to use on your sewing machine, and sew into your placemat.

Sew each mat with the same stitch and thread, then change to the next part of the design.

Top tip – when you are transferring your design from paper onto the placemats, hold them on the window with the sun coming through; it makes it easy to trace the pattern onto your placemat using your frixion pen.

I’d love for you to visit my blog and Instagram.

I hope you like the ideas I have shared here and hopefully you have been inspired to do some table setting crafting during the long Fall evenings ready for spring!

Have a great day!
