DIY Mother’s Day Decor and Crafty Projects

Mother’s Day is a few weeks away. What are you going to give to the special mom or family member in your life this coming Mother’s Day? What about doing something different this year. Instead of flowers or candy as a gift, you could make one. I bet your Mother or others in your life would rather have a handmade memory that they can cherish for years to come. A journal, a book of memories, anything that brings to life your heartfelt love for Mom.

This month we challenged the crew to create something with denim, they could use anything denim.  Alison had the idea to use the pockets from her children’s jeans to create her special Mother’s Day gifts.  These sweet little pockets trigger special memories and simply look great.  CCB Crew Member Alison Osborn shares with us some handmade Mother’s Day Gifts that any Mother would love to have….

To make these special projects Alison used a variety of products from the 7gypsies and Canvas Corp Brands including the Gypsy Seamstress and Gypsy Moments collections. Here is the complete list of materials she used;

If you haven’t already checked out some the 7 Gypsies collection, like Gypsy Seamstress (printed and solid fabric cartable items with a gypsy twist) and Gypsy Moments (to help you remember to capture those special mom gypsy moments,) I highly recommend it. They have some of the most perfect nostalgic charm for making a Mother’s Day gift.

Today I’d like to share a Mother’s Day gift I made out of Canvas Corp and 7gypsies materials. I started with an embroidery loom that I covered with a canvas sheet. I then used 7gypsies Vintage Canvas Banners, both the Birds and the Chairs patterns. I centered each banner onto the loom. I cut 12×12 Board and Room paper into half circles, fringed the edges and with a paper doily, I attached them under one side of the banner. On the other side I attached fringed pink Ticking Fabric and tissue stock.

The pockets I used are from an old pair of my son’s toddler jeans. On one pocket I sewed a heart that I cut from the pink Ticking Fabric. On the other I added “mom” from wooden alphabet letters. For some additional charm to go into the pocket I made some paper and pom-pom flowers. Plus, I added 7gypsy Charming Tags, which have beautiful floral graphics. Pockets from old jeans, new or old are a great touch.  If you don’t have your own, you will find great choices at garage sales and local second hand stores.  The pocket is functional, so drop in a special note, 10 things you love about mom or maybe 10 handmade gift cards will special to do’s she can choose from.

For final touches, I added wooden buttons and cut tea cups out of the Fill the Cup on Kraft paper from Canvas Corp. Have fun creating and Happy Mother’s Day!!!!-Alison

The new Gypsy Seamstress line not only has printed banners that are fun to work with, these pennants features amazing vintage fabric prints and are available in 8 different styles, you can use them together like Alison did with this sweet little bunting run or you can mix them up.

Set up a sweet vignette like this on the front porch, entry, back porch or a fun place for mom to find.  You can add little gifts cards and even flowers mom gets for Mother’s Day.  We don’t think to decorate for Mother’s Day, but what a great touch and we can guarantee that Mom will be surprised.
