DIY Painted Garden Pillow

Many of our collections were created to give you creative papers, fabrics, tags, cards, etc. in fun, themes that are part of everyday living.  Our collection the Watering Can is for all those garden, flower and critter lovers out there and is perfect for craft, DIY and home decor pieces. One of our newest items in the Canvas Corp brand offer is our The Watering Can Printed Fabric Panel measure approx. 13″x 17″ and are filled with amazing vintage garden art.  The art is amazing just as it is or you can transform it to create the garden color palette of your choice.  You may be very comfortable working with paper, but are a bit timid when it comes to crafting with fabric and so this project is to show you how fun and easy it is to design with fabric and you will be thrilled with the results.

Basic CMYK

There are so many things you can do with the fabric panels that you cannot do with paper, making it a great addition to the collection.  One of our favorite creative techniques is to add color to our printed paper designs and we love the technique even more when we paint our fabric panels and it is so easy.  It is like painting a beautiful adult coloring book, we like to call it adult coloring, we call it beautiful and relaxing.

THE PILLOW

The Water Can Fabric Panel

30×36 sheet of avocado burlap

Glimmer Glaze Island SpringDesert Sun and Sweet Pea

Chalkboard Ruby Slipper

Glimmer Mist Pink Coral

paints used

These Tattered Angels Paints love to paint on fabric.

Glimmer Glaze comes with a built in paint brush and almost feels like you are painting like you paint your nails..  You will want to mix up all the good glimmer and glam inside this little bottle, you can turn it upside down before use for just a bit or you can stir with the back of paint brush to get all the goodies blended.  This paint is permanent and if used along on this project it would actually be washable.  We want to go on the record saying however we do not recommend washing your DIY painted projects unless you are looking for a vintage, distressed look.  You can simply paint any portion of the fabric with your paint brush just as you would add color to a coloring book.

Chalkboard Mist and Glimmer Mist both come with sprayers and for this project we want you to shake your paint by moving the bottle side to side, you never want to shake up and down so you protect the sprayer from clogging (if it does rise with hot water and you should be good to go), but for this project we are going to remove the sprayer after shaking and pour a small amount of each into small cups.  You will use a small paint brush of your choice to add the mists to the canvas fabric, creating a unique watercolor effect.  You can cover a wider space with the a paint brush and the mist and the end results are stunning.

Now it is time to sew your pillow parts together, here is a great how to sew a pillow tutorial we found on HGTV with step by step instructions.  If sewing is just out of the question, you can use one of our favorite glues Fabric-Tac, you can use it to put your pillow together, just don’t forget to leave an opening with either to fill your pillow, we always suggest using a pillow inserts and we love Fairfield products.

To create this ensemble you can add our red burlap and red canvas flowers to one of our canvas pillows that are available in a wide range of sizes and shapes.  You can fussy cut out pieces of the painted fabric and create burlap flower centers to finish your flowers off.  Glue them into place with Fabric-Tac.
