Elegant Vintage Birthday Cards

Hi everyone, Heidi from www.makeyourlifecolourful.com here, today I’m showing you how to create this elegant set of vintage birthday cards. These cards were a lot of fun to make!

Step 1:

For both cards I started out with a die cutting a rectangle panel in the size that I wanted from Canvas Corp Thickstock “Vanilla Speckle“ card stock. This is a nice heavy weight card stock that’s very sturdy and it has a little speckle in it. On the panel for the first card I splattered with Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist in the color “Navy Blue“ using a brush. I also edged this panel with Memento ink in the color “Toffee Crunch“ using a foam applicator tool.

As my focal point I choose one of the images from the 7gypsies Architextures Salvage Art “Wall“ set featuring a peacock. This image I matted on Canvas Corp E-Flute Kraft card stock using liquid glue. For my sentiment I used a tag from the 7gypsies Gypsy Moments “Happy Bday“ tags: I cut a piece of of the bottom part, separated the tag in half and put it back together using liquid glue (this way the “To“ and “From“ isn’t showing). Then I edged the tag using the same Toffee Crunch ink that I used before.

For my second card I used an image from the same Salvage Art “Wall“ set, but this time featuring some beautiful flowers. I matted this image on some Canvas Corp “Tan & Ivory French Script“ card stock, then edging the combined panels with the same Toffee Crunch ink that I used before. I used the same tags, as for the first card, for my sentiment but this time I cut a rectangle from it (hence not using the tag shape itself). This sentiment I matted on the same E-Flute Kraft card stock that I used before. And I splattered the Vanilla Speckle background panel using Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist in the color “Black Cherry“ and also edged this panel with the Toffee Crunch ink.

Step 2:

Now I can put my cards together. On both cards I first adhered some Canvas Corp “Jute Cord – Natural“ around the Vanilla Speckle panels, adhering on the back using regular tape. On top I adhered the focal points and the sentiments also using foam tape and on the peacock card I adhered some of the same Jute Cord to the tag and wrapping that around the back, adhering the cord there using regular tape. Now all I have to do is to adhere these combined panels to a crème coloured card base using one millimetre thick foam tape and these two fun and elegant cards are finished!
